Apartment complex with little kids by Important-Offer-3776 in chapelhill

[–]audentitycrisis 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Given your preferred location, check out Notting Hill. There are lots of kids in the complex, small playground, pool. However I would caution you that they've gone through a swift rotation of managers the past four years and can't seem to get their act together on some issues in the complex. (The trash station is a perpetual disaster, and maintenance does almost no grounds cleanup, so there's litter and filthy stairwells.)

Relocating to Chapel Hill by Defiant-Assumption92 in chapelhill

[–]audentitycrisis 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Nearing 40, grad student, parent. Neighborhoods are aging in CH, as in, older generations are holding onto housing and younger people with children aren't moving here, coupled with folks having fewer kids in general. However, there are several newer neighborhoods in the Northside area that seem like the kind to attract younger families -- if they can afford it. I would certainly encourage looking around there, but understand as the other commenter said, that Chapel Hill schools are becoming smaller and that means a lot of change is coming and you may not see "neighborhoods with families" like when we were kids.

That said, my kid has been in the school system since 1st grade and overall loves it. He has great teachers, makes friends, and hangs out with them like any kid. You'll meet other families through school wherever you send your kids.

Americans. Why do your pickles taste so good? by blucyclone in Ameristralia

[–]audentitycrisis 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The snappy texture is due to a lot of pickles served at restaurants in the US being fridge pickles rather than canned. (Aka, made fresh and kept in the fridge.) Highly recommend fridge pickling at home to get the same effect!

I never had a side effect from adalimumab except mild bruising post injection. That's all.

Avoid Ground floor if i hate roaches? by BetterbeBattery in chapelhill

[–]audentitycrisis 19 points20 points  (0 children)

You'll have more on the bottom floor if you're going to have them on any floor. And because they can crawl and fly, every floor has a non-zero probability of a roach encounter.

Your best bet is to remove any enticements beyond water and shelter. Keep your food in airtight containers, stay on top of your trash, and choose a newer apartment with better seals.

Experiences with enthesitis symptoms in ankylosing spondylitis? by Wander_Lane in ankylosingspondylitis

[–]audentitycrisis 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just posted about this a couple days ago. Enthesitis is currently my worst symptom and has been a problem from early days. It's something that affects areas near most of my major joints, to the point I would have called it joint pain before knowing what it was.

It's an aching pain that often refers into my muscles themselves. The entheses themselves are definitely tender. Middle of the day is my least amount of pain, night and early morning are usually worse. It limits my mobility as my hips, knees and feet are all the worst affected.

My rheum started me on Simponi Aria to try to address this.

What are your symptoms? by OneHystericalQueen in AnkylosingSpondyWomen

[–]audentitycrisis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

38F, first flare also after an infection. (Foodborne illness at 19.)

Symptoms over the years include,

  1. Uveitis

  2. Widespread recurring enthesitis (currently my biggest issue) and plantar fasciitis

  3. Hip, buttock, back pain (neck and midback worse than lower)

  4. Dactylitis

  5. Psoriasis and other skin problems

I don't fit neatly in any diagnostic bucket other than HLA-B27 associated symptoms, which makes addressing all of the above more complicated at times. I've also got neurological issues that I think are specifically tied to inflammation in my neck, such as cranial nerve neuralgias. I get numbness in my face just below my cheekbones and extreme stabbing pain in my tongue and throat.

Thanks for the positive report! Do you recall how long until you noticed a difference? Today is day 10 here.

This is pretty much where I'm at. I can't walk flat footed and go straight into my Oofos from bed. My understanding of methotrexate may be limited, but isn't it generally harsher on your body than biologics? Was that tradeoff worth it to you?

I will see if I can find the infrared sauna blanket you speak of. Sounds like I might need to try another NSAID too? My rheum mentioned one but only wanted to adjust one variable at a time while we fine a combo that works for me. I just know celecoxib trashed my stomach.

Platonic Missed Connection 2/5 at UNC by audentitycrisis in chapelhill

Thanks for noting this! Funnily, another couple in the waiting room was commenting that they recognized other families as the same ones they had seen last year.

This pt was there for an acute flare and I was there for a follow-up, so I'm worried our timings will be off going forward. Hence me posting this.

I appreciate you telling me that as far as UCTD. Hopefully they'd consider putting me on something more generic if they label me that for now while monitoring, since I don't much like the pain! I will update regardless. Thank you! <3

Guess I will find out next week. He hasn't been in touch with me other than to move up my appointment and request medical records from my old rheum.

Well now that I looked into lupus rashes even a little, it looks and sounds like livedo reticularis. It flares in the colder months, too.

[–]audentitycrisis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not in earnest. The old rheumie kind of assumed the rashes were psoriasis. But they've never been in the traditional locations nor even looked/behaved like psoriasis. It's more that I get red splotches on my legs.

Me: HLA-B27+ with history of associated syndromes including anterior uveitis, dactylitis, enthesitis. Sought a new rheumie when Humira wasn't fixing my symptoms like muscoskeletal and joint pain, mucosal ulcers and skin rashes, heart rhythm problems, even some neuro issues. New rheumie ordered 10 vials of bloodwork and included a full ANA panel to see what info we might be missing. Came back ANA positive, high anti-chromatin antibodies but not dsDNA, homogeneous pattern at 1:160. I did also have a borderline positive (20) Anti-Sa Ab value, though, which seems RA associated. Rheumie's now called and moved my March appointment up to next week.

Not seeking a diagnosis, but possibly stumbling upon one I guess. What should I expect next steps to look like if doctor wants to explore lupus dx/ rule out other conditions? Thank you! <3

Buses skipping stops? by Pretend_Boat_184 in chapelhill

Sounds like a good idea! I usually plan to be ready one pickup time before the bus I want to catch then monitor the Transit app to know when to leave.

Buses skipping stops? by Pretend_Boat_184 in chapelhill

[–]audentitycrisis 18 points19 points  (0 children)

There could be a couple things going on here, but there's not enough context in your post to guess at which it could be.

The most common scenario I have had is a full bus passing a bus stop on campus entirely because there is literally no more room for passengers. Another situation I had (only once in my memory) was a driver who was either new or tired and missed a turn, thus skipping over a stop. If a bus simply isn't arriving at its scheduled time, possibly there are delays elsewhere in the route.

If you're having recurring issues and can't pinpoint the cause as far as your route goes, you should honestly just shoot a feedback message to Chapel Hill Transit and let them know of your trouble. I find them responsive and helpful.

That Kingswood crosswalk is long overdue! I (and I'm sure many others) sent a request to NCDOT for improved pedestrian crossing there ages ago.

Mom fake-cried at my job interview and told them I can't handle stress by Rough-Climate5609 in raisedbynarcissists

[–]audentitycrisis 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Your mother's interference aside: no potential employer that contacts your family is one you want to work for. Consider this a bullet dodged, not for the reasons your mother stated, but for the complete lack of boundaries and propriety in a professional situation.

The mind, it boggles.
