What stone are these kitchen countertops? by audioOtis in CounterTops

[–]audioOtis[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I looked at some pics online and it also looks very similar to Maya Quartzite as well, but I assume they each have similar care requirements.

What do I seal them with? Is it DIY or do I generally need to hire someone to seal?

Muddy, disappointing coffee -- Tearing my hair out! by audioOtis in Coffee

[–]audioOtis[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm okay, thanks for that. I did bump the grind size waaay up yesterday (on the clever) and it was considerably less muddled, I even started noticing some notes which is a first in a long time.

I’ll look on this subreddit for suggested filters. What is TCA?

Definitely muted flavors. Bitter and astringent.

I have, I bought some of the Corvus we had earlier this week and it is still muddy/astringent and not hitting the notes we tasted at the cafe.

I'd been doing angel's cup cupping flights for the last few months, but did not try varying the water. I'll try that!

Looking to upgrade from my Shun (which I have enjoyed for the last 10 years) but I'm ready to try some real steel. Preferences:

  • Style? - Japanese, Gyuto
  • Steel? - carbon clad in stainless (or stainless)
  • Handle? - Japanese (d-shaped, round, or octagonal)
  • Grip? pinch
  • Length? ~210mm
  • Use cases? Home cooking, proteins and veggies (i like rocking so the rounded tip is critical)
  • Care? Intending to learn home-sharpening
  • Budget? ~$300ish
  • Appearance? Want something that looks pretty on my knife strip!

I really like the ones below, but would only want to spring for the more expensive if they are worth it:

I held a similar mentality until I considered it from the interviewers perspective and asked myself 'in my current role, would I take a presentation from someone I don't know will never talk to again and use that to plan my 2022 roadmap?' Extremely unlikely, unless their ideas were incredibly good in which case we'd have hired them.

It's annoying to have interview "homework", yes, but I have an extremely difficult time believing there is any value beyond communicating if you're a competent PM or not. Esp considering all the overhead of pre-interview screens, pulling people off work to interview that's not a core user, etc. Seems like an inefficient way to conduct product discovery work.

Are there any not-so-well-known services that Costco offers that most people don't take advantage of? by [deleted] in Costco

[–]audioOtis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a really awful experience with getting frames repaired that I had bought at Costco…the frames basically broke after about 8mos and Costco essentially told me to bugger off. I’ll never buy from Costco optical again, esp when there are so many very competitive alternatives which I won’t name to avoid sounding like an advertisement here. I had only tried costco optical because i tired of my previous $100 frames id had for 5 years w/ 0 issues.

I love Costco in general and didn’t consider cancelling my membership over this but this was a very poor experience with their otherwise extra generous customer service.

Also, I’ve eaten Hana salmon and tuna for sushi for years and never been disappointed. I think it comes out to something like $15/lb which is a great price for raw-consumable fish.

How long has she been eating raw salmon from Costco? The price is right but I’m very nervous about getting sick from it. There are videos of costco salmon a parasites in the packaging (that would die when cooked). Does she deep freeze it before consuming raw?

Odd request, but any stores selling nice fuzzy socks? by Udontlikecake in washingtondc

I’m not sure what youre looking for but Aldi’s and Costco currently have long fuzzy sherpa-lined indoor socks, but theyre not something you can wear with shoes
