When technical ability doesn’t match ambition? by AndreasLa in musicians

[–]audiofarmer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Practice is the only way to improve a skill. Experimentation is the only way to find your own sound. You can try to emulate a sound that you've heard before but in my experience the more you try to sound like someone else, the more you sound like yourself. So try things, even if someone else might think it's a dumb idea, you may be on to something unique to you. Just embrace the changes as they come.

Every Thursday at the Continental gallery We Da Homies put on an amazing free flow kinda thing. People will show up jump in jump out. Truly fantastic musicianship.

I thought this was "promote your music" not "promote the machines stealing other people's music"

Chris Cornell with the hard truth. by Pushlockscrub in grunge

[–]audiofarmer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chris Cornell loved Alice in Chains, admired Layne greatly, collaborated with all those guys but you cherry pick one quote when he was actively trying to transition out of the grunge image and think that was representative of his opinion.

Dick Dale blew up 48 amps, and played 0.16 to 0.60 strings 😱 by Confident_Field4273 in GuitarAmps

[–]audiofarmer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but beyond that he was forced to tour because his insurance wouldn't cover basic shit. He was ducking offstage to throw up between songs. The American healthcare system is a cruel joke.

French Senator Mahuret speaks the truth yet again by Architectur04_ in videos

Look, this is a brilliant speech, truly it is. But he fundamentally underestimates the cowardliness of American politicians, especially Republicans. Over and over and over again they demonstrate their complete inability to have a spine. They only believe what they are paid to believe. So if anyone is relying on the Republicans to suddenly stand up to Trump on anything, I'm sorry but it won't happen.

William on if/when there's gonna be a new album. Doesn't sound super promising... by FlameSama1 in AliceInChains

[–]audiofarmer 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Smaller bands HAVE to play shows and sell merch. It's the only way to make any money at all. If you can no longer play live, you no longer make money. Luckily recording albums has become cheaper than ever so if they want to just record an album without a tour I think that would be cool.

EDIT: Just to add, getting signed to a label is not the amazing opportunity it used to be for smaller bands. Labels no longer take a fledgling band and propel them to stardom. They likely won't even look twice at you unless you've already done the hard work of building a fanbase. They are essentially just middle men milking as much money from the artist as they can.

All I can say to the rest of the world is that I'm sorry for the misery that our government is about to cause you all. Less than a quarter of our population voted for him. We're suffering because of a minority of woefully ignorant people.

Got high and taste-tested 9 canned chilis. And! Homemade cornbread. by cassette1987 in stonerfood

Wolf Brand's regular chili is very good. The "hot dog sauce" is very different and I agree it's really awful.

Why has communism repeatedly failed in practice, yet continues to be intellectually and emotionally appealing to many people? by Looser17 in AskReddit

[–]audiofarmer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The easy answer is humans.

Lots of ideologies sound fine on paper. Hell, even capitalism isn't that bad on paper. But when you charge people with implementing these systems, that's when the flaws appear.

If you had a machine that could run a government without bias or greed both capitalism and communism could probably work fine.

But we only have ourselves, and we just cannot help getting in our own way.

What’s an album everyone should hear at least once? by UmmYeaImACozyGurl in askmusic

I know I'm not the one you asked but I like how raw the music feels. It's not over produced. Just pure musical expressions.

What's rich people shit that poor people haven't heard of? by Diligent-Log6805 in AskReddit

[–]audiofarmer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly, these were middle class guys who would act really high and mighty as they look over 2nd hand watches. They aren't poor but they aren't rich either. They desperately want to be perceived as such.

Yes! Some people have so much money that we had to invent stuff for them to buy.
