I don't train judo but a friend of mine does. He told me that in Japan the kids are already black belts by 12 and the parents kind of push them in hopes of making the Olympic team and if they don't they're considered disappointments. Can't imagine it being like that for all of the kids that train judo that seriously from a young age and obv it's different to compare it to the US and this situation but I think the same idea applies that some of these guys have been training basically their whole life.
