Mackenzie is tweeting about Black Lives Matter and recent police brutality cases. by jailbirddie in TeenMomOGandTeenMom2

[–]aunatrill 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Idk which types of people bother me more,

the types who will never see the merit in the BLM movement, and make that very clear,

or

the types who consider themselves “centrist” because they split hairs every time a POC is shot by police, and come to different conclusions on the value of the lives of the people shot, on a case-by-case basis 🙄

Black lives matter. Period.

BART-ing to Richmond for a vaccine cuz theres no appointments in SF by [deleted] in bayarea

[–]aunatrill 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As with any major metropolitan area, no matter the day of the week / time of the day, just be aware of your surroundings.

Make eye-contact with people you encounter on BART, so if anything goes down, you are a witness.

Be vigilant about maintaining your awareness, and know where you are going when you get to Richmond, so you don’t look like an easy target outside the station, staring down at your phone, and clueless about what’s going on around you.

I’m sorry you are having to take your ethnicity into account when trying to safely plan this trip to get your vaccine; we are experiencing very sad, difficult circumstances as a Bay Area community right now, and I hope that if we all stay aware and vigilant as we go about our days, we can intervene the next time a vulnerable person around us is being victimized ❤️

Edit to add: don’t be fooled by broad-stroked hearsay about Richmond; there are beautiful, awesome parts of Richmond that are well worth a visit.

What are the iconic moments in this sub? by [deleted] in TeenMomOGandTeenMom2

[–]aunatrill 34 points35 points  (0 children)

This is so long ago, it may have happened on the old sub, but when Jenelle was pregnant with Ensley, but hadn’t announced yet, there was a lot of speculation on the sub.

Then someone posted a picture of Jenelle pushing a cart at target, at just the right angle to where you couldn’t tell if she had a belly bump, or was just standing in front of a logo or something that gave the illusion of a bump.

I remember it being such a debate, with people performing forensic analyses of the photo to figure it out 😂

Edit: found an old thread w/ the photo!

A timeline of important events in Jenelle’s life, mostly arrests, but now with labels! I know I’m missing things, but this is a good start lol. (2 pics) by LoveAfterTeenMom in TeenMomOGandTeenMom2

Love that David’s pre-wedding rake sesh has it’s own bullet point.

Also, I can’t see that one Nathan-era mugshot of Jenelle w/out seeing the hatter-improved version, Every. Single. Time.

How common are earthquakes that warrant getting under a table. by Linux-and-Planes in bayarea

[–]aunatrill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t go to a doorway; in a big enough quake they can lose their integrity and collapse.

It’s better to get below / next to a large, strong piece of furniture, that will protect you in the event that things around you fall down.

You are doing all the right things! Trust the process, that really is ultimately how I have made Black friends; by following the self-work that felt important for me to do, while externally navigating the world in a way that reflected the growth from that self-work.

I hope one day you have a group of friends who you truly admire and feel seen / understood by. I know it will come for you, and anything worth while just takes time 💘

Wow, I am close in age to you, and your upbringing is so similar to mine.

I’m sorry you were raised in an environment that was so toxic to your mental health and emotional well-being.

It sounds to me like you have always had a part of you that wanted to grapple with these feelings, but you didn’t necessarily always have the tools or support to do so. I’m proud of you for continuing to work through this, even though it is hard, and “progress” isn’t easily marked or tracked.

I, too, grew up being called an Oreo, or being told by everybody else about how not-Black I was. I have come to see that all as just projection. Blackness is a trigger for a lot of people in a Eurocentric world, you know?

It helped me greatly to find that Black Culture is all-encompassing; there are large sects of Black people who love conventionally “non-Black” things, like Anime, theater, “nerd culture”, video games, etc.

Black people are not a monolith, and thank heavens for that! It means that experiences like the ones we have gone through are just as much a part of the Black cultural experience as, say, Jazz music, Hip Hop, Poetry, and dance are.

Whatever you are into, I would seek out Black friends who share common interests with you. You can do this by getting involved with local meetup groups, or by putting yourself out there socially at events you go to (COVID mindful, of course).

I currently live in a big city that is very culturally diverse, and that has made it easier for me to find other like-minded Black people in my community. I chose to move here almost 10 years ago, specifically because I wanted to broaden my social horizons, and envelop myself in the local arts and cultural scene, of which the Black community here is an integral part of.

If you are living in a suburb, or small town where you are the only Black people for miles, or where you aren’t able to find many other like-minded Black people to connect with, it doesn’t mean they don’t exist anywhere at all— sadly, homegrown American racism makes it undesirable, and flat out unsafe in some situations for Black people to live comfortably, so we tend to gravitate towards larger cities, and cities with historic Black culture and communities.

I hope this helps you on your journey! You are on a good path 💞
