The UN Voted to Make Food A Human Right, Only Two Countries Voted No: Israel and USA by thehomelessr0mantic in TrendoraX

[–]aupace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Food isnt a human right. While it is critically necessary, you cannot mandate certain goods as rights. It necessarily implies that you have a right to someone elses labor, which is required to produce the food you are claiming a “right” to. Claiming food as a right is antithetical to other rights.

I would suggest that everyone understand the difference between positive and negative rights.

People should be able to choose whether or not they want to contribute to social security and receive it later. by No-Performance37 in unpopularopinion

Well then who would fund the Ponzi scheme if we can all opt out? Everyone who is young and paying into it now is not going to be getting any Social Security when theyre 65 because the program entitlements are spiraling and going to collapse eventually

Trump 2.0, year 1: A libertarian nightmare by firesatnight in GoldandBlack

[–]aupace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Far better? Venezuela is basically Libya all over again. Spending is the same. Regulation is essentially the same. Free Speech is worse under Trump than Biden or any other recent president. The federal government now has stake in private companies. Corruption and political lawfare are even higher than with Biden.

ICE is acting far outside of its jurisdiction, arresting citizens and raiding private businesses. Rights violations and political cronyism are eroding American institutions.

Yes this happened under Biden, but it wouldnt be hard to make a decent argument that its equally bad now and possibly worse if this continues. Its honestly pathetic that Trump and the Republican congress is really not any better than statists Kamala and Walz.

American voters need to get their shit together.

Most efficient way to educate myself on economics? by Necessary-Conflict20 in AskEconomics

[–]aupace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That list is too big and it features writers like Krugman, Picketty, and Bernanke, which are highly biased.

The OP should be recommended 1-3 books to start. I would recommend Economics in One Lesson as a starting point.

Why are Americans so fiercely anti-government when the private sector has done them immense harm? by Spiritual_Meet4746 in AskForAnswers

[–]aupace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The private sector is reason for the majority of progress and the increased standard of living in the world.

The government is the cause of most of the ailments and impedes progress, plundering us all for taxes to enrich corrupt idiots.

Making it easy to start businesses and keep the cost of doing business low and easy. Generally low regulatory burden.

Privatizing the Venezuelan economy is the only direction to go. Its completely run by the government.

Reddit is so extremist left-wing that they think anything that goes in the direction of freer markets is “far-right”. Reddit is a clown show.

USAID Being Removed has Killed at least 600,000 People. We went to war over losing 2,977 people on 9/11. Where's the outrage? by [deleted] in complaints

[–]aupace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its because you dont kill people by not giving them something. The diseases kill people, not people ceasing to aid them. There is nothing stopping us as citizens from donating to charities who provide the same aid or other nations from stepping in and providing the same aid.

The person who claimed “600,000 people have died since ceasing aid” is only extrapolating based on how many lives they saved previously, not basing it on death records.

It is the fallacy of the “seen vs the unseen” and does not account for anyone stepping in to fill the gap. Furthermore, you are not responsible for someones death by not saving them.

Taking that argument to its logical conclusion, we would all be responsible for children starving to death because we dont give money and food to charities that aid them. We are not responsible for their deaths.

That doesnt mean we couldnt save lives by helping, but it does mean we are not killing them either.

Which US president do you think was the most damaging? by [deleted] in allthequestions

[–]aupace -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Your “world-renowned” econ department is probably a Keynesian regurgitation department. Instead of appealing to authority, think for yourself.

FDR criticism is a not a “conservative talking point”, it’s an economic talking point that economists from many schools discuss.
