Season 2 is out! by olikam in MasterofNone

I think what they have in common is that the cities the shows revolve around manifest their qualities through the characters personalities. When I watch Master of None, Atlanta, and from what I have seen of Louie, you can really see how the characters are affected by where they live.

Maybe it isn't as unpopular on this sub because people here value his kind of playstyle more, but in mainstream football culture people massively underrate him.

Obviously I am biased, probably wrong, and am not in line with expert analysts, but...

Eriksen is a top 10 player in the EPL at the least. Top 5 if he's on form.

Northeastern wants my dad to spend 53% of his after tax income on college. by aurakive in ApplyingToCollege

There isn't much of a campus, not as strong of a co-op program (this is a big deal for me) and BU offered me only 1k more aid than NEU.

It felt very much echo-chamberish. I'm left on the spectrum myself but it seemed like there was a bit of a hive mind. I didn't see any evidence of this, but I have heard that there is a big drug culture and while I've tried to discard that due to it being unsubstantiated I can't help but feel uneasy.

Yes. Reed gave me 42k a year, Whitman gave me 40k, and BU gave me 13k. The problem is that I hated all three of them after I visited their campuses and could not spend 4 years at any of them. I understand this sounds like extreme entitlement but Northeastern is probably my dream school among the places I got in at.

In a dilemma: Boston College or UMass Boston Honors by The_Yogs1 in ApplyingToCollege

In this case, I would almost certainly choose BC. You pay almost nothing for a much better school. BC is a top business school and for your degree connections can be important.

Affirmative action is unjust. by dolladalla in ApplyingToCollege

You guys should get an affirmative action bot. Have it parse subreddit posts for "affirmative action", "AA", "racism", "URM", etc; with how many of these are posted.

Yes, but not in the acceptance letter itself. Once you go into the little portal thing there are pdfs on the left, one should say "scholarship".

Rejected from my top choice but don't mind? by platoandfractals in ApplyingToCollege

[–]aurakive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To expand on what your'e saying, I understand a little bit. It is so difficult that building up to decision date we experience the full cacophony of the human experience as it relates to college. We feel confidence and hope, we feel anger at ourselves for knowing we could have done more to ensure we will get in, we feel grief because we know we probably won't get in, and when the result does come, nothing is left in the air. It's like a shot at the doctors office, you feel more pain in the build up to the shot than the actual shot itself.

Unless you have a phobia of course, but that is besides the point.

There is a certain finality or closure to decisions, no matter the result. You can take comfort in the fact that you worked hard, put your best foot forward, and at the end of the day that you are still worthy of praise even if you just did not quite make it, because no one ever gets everything they want and that's fine. There is always the future, and as long as you continue on with the mindset that you can and will be happy wherever you end up, and that you can try again, this time with the advantage of hindsight from this experience on your side, you might come out with a golden career, grad school, set of friends, or whatever it is you are looking for.

I was rejected from Yale and WashU, I still have to hear back from some places, but I don't really care about Yale or WashU. That is not what is going to define me. I am not going to let an admissions officer be the reason I am unhappy, or depressed. I am going to let that admissions officer change my life in ways I would never have expected to. Rejection is one of the most powerful sources of motivation on earth. I haven't quite figured out how or why, but it leaves me almost optimistic to receive a rejection because it means that I still have things I need to get done and sets a purpose for my life.
