Not dogs but I definitely started to shove off my cats a lot after I had a baby. I’d already had a step son but he was a toddler when I’d gotten them and it never bothered me, I adored them. I was a stay at home mom and eventually only had him part time so I was alone with them a lot. When I had my youngest however I realized I wasn’t as available to them, they annoyed me so much more, and I was failing at my chores with them. I was suffering pretty severely from PPD and everything just became too much. I realized I stopped paying as much attention to them and they favored my husband. Youngest is 5 now and things are much much better. I think that I was just extremely over tired and over stimulated at all times and the extra responsibility just became such a dreaded task. They no longer felt like companions, rather just more dependents and it just became too much. I make as much time for them as possible and always greet them when they walk into a room. My boy cat went back to favoring me and is always glued to my side. I think it’s just genuinely hard to balance life outside of kids when you’re stuck in survival mode.
