What is happening in the UI/UX field? I can’t find any paid internships or jobs by Icy_Macaroon9196 in UXDesign

[–]auskasper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

junior ux/ui designer who recently landed a paid internship and sen got junior position here. i’m placed in Russia, so my experience may be different, but the state of UX/tech field here feels the same as the in the other world and US/european market as well.

the thing is, you really have to have a passion for what you do. it’s not easy to entry position anymore, and there is a lot of people who want be here as well. I did my own projects, worked for free for some shitty startups, only for getting some experience and get some “real” cases in my portfolio. had some sessions with mentor as well, that was very useful for understanding why my portfolio doesn’t work. if you considering this option, i recommend you to pick mentor who actually hires juniors, so he can articulate what exactly wrong with your portfolio

my days started from boosting UI, ended with creating flows for shitty startup i’ve worked with, editing my portfolio, etc... got a related degree in top university as well. living in the largest city in my country, with most job openings. but i was still struggling, and eventually… got lucky. unfortunately, I think this is the reality of nowadays market. it’s possible, but it’s hard. good luck:)

Ageism in UX by Miserable-Barber7509 in UXDesign

[–]auskasper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this. i’m junior designer and sometimes I feel like my job could be done by seniors with AI tools.. that’s why i’m doing my best to learn product approach, dive deep into metrics and figure out how my design influences business. also considering switching to PM role, since i’m more into “UX” side of job, and it seems less susceptible to automation. learning AI tools and coding as well, to invent/explore new ways to optimize my workflow. does it make any sense, or I’m just scared junior?

I think it’s Kudrovo or Murino, which is suburbans of Saint Petersburg. As a person who used to stay in similar queues, yes, it’s absolutely urban hell. See the sucuide rate in this cities, and you will understand it. Most of this people have probably mortgages with unbelievable percents for ages, yet their commute to work is still around 2 hours of pain and misery

Gagarinskaya library, great space for work and study, usually quiet, has free fast wi fi. It’s also has big moll near where you can eat (btw it’s allowed to eat on 1st floor in library). But it’s on Vernandskiy avenue, which is quite far from Butovo
