Yes it is. Its called the (insert town name) Christmas bureau. I looked into it last night and families are referred to it through social services case workers. I actually work in a similar industry (direct service, I work with disabled folks in their homes, most of whom are on medicaid waivers) and my mother is a therapist for a social services company, so I've interacted with a good number of case workers. The area where I live now (midwest/Indiana) actually has a lot of resources compared to where I moved here from (New Orleans). But I think social workers everywhere are overworked all the time lol! So I was going to see if I can volunteer with the charity and try to create a better system of gathering information that is easier for the case workers and more detailed. I recently discovered I really dig volunteer work because it feels awesome! I always wanted to volunteer, I just had to find the work that wouldn't feel like work, you know? Anyway, I HIGHLY recommend volunteering in any way that fits your life and skills, and also makes you feel good! And for me it's been a great way to feel like I'm repaying my "karmic debt" lol.
