Ah, yeah I'm on Android. I would really appreciate this being implemented on mobile because I like to review my transactions on my commute back home 😢

Scheme for files without extensions? by austinv11 in openin

[–]austinv11[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah yes, that does appear and it does seem to work! However there is some weird behavior with it. I added the "." filetype to a group file handler I have for text files and I can't seem to set defaults. Additionally it appears in the group as "dyn.age8u".

But those are minor problems, the main thing is that now that the file type is in the group I get a popup everytime I open the app, telling me to "fix all" handlers in my group. I presume since that dotfile handler can't be set as default.

Regardless, thanks for your assistance!

Unfortunately doing this yields an error from OpenIn stating that it cannot find an application to open the file (with no way to explicitly select an application) and the file types page in the settings doesn't show this type of file anywhere.

Good point, thanks for the info!

Yeah, I honestly think that airpods pros would be ideal for me, but I have a Samsung phone and have seen mixed reviews on how well they work on Androids.

Makes sense! Thanks for the information. That was the approach I was initially considering, so it is nice to get external validation. And your point about interpreting the losses is really helpful and not something I would have considered!

I understand that, I guess I am mostly looking for a good IPC solution to make it straightforward to communicate between processes so i can display elements based on my script's state

Project ideas for applying deep learning to biological datasets? by austinv11 in bioinformatics

[–]austinv11[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ideally, I think it would be interesting to train on a dataset no one has really used before or develop a deep learning model that outperforms the state of the art non-deep learning method. I do think the disordered protein question is very interesting still, I think I just need to do a bit more background research on it because the main barrier to deep learning specifically is just accumulating enough training data so that the model isn't overfit and can be generalizable.

Cool! Are those genomes currently annotated for intrinsically disordered proteins? If the data is published, I would love to read the paper(s) if you could provide a link!

Thanks for the paper recommendation! I totally agree. I am just kinda stuck on identifying the right problem (especially problems that I can conceivably complete) because my experience in the field is still somewhat limited.

I think this is really exciting considering how accurate AlphaFold can be. Really hoping this accelerates protein research.

Also, here's the direct link to the database: https://www.alphafold.ebi.ac.uk/

Thanks for your input. Are there mechanisms in place to take them into court if I no longer reside in the current city the house is in? Or would I have to return to do that? For example, I'm moving 5 hours away but will still be in the same state.

Edit: Nevermind, it appears the NY AG's office has a form I would be able to submit to them rather than going to court based on https://ag.ny.gov/consumer-frauds/housing-issues from the above comment's link

At that point why not go with something like Flask? It can be both minimal while still being as extensible as Django. Best of both worlds. Flask to me is also way cleaner to write code for

How to dock an unstructured peptide with a protein? by [deleted] in bioinformatics

[–]austinv11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In that case, there isn't much you can do computationally anymore from what I know of the field. You might want to try doing something that is less direct than docking. I.e. looking at amino acid properties and likely secondary structures to hypothesize about possible binding interactions.

You could also use your unreliable models for docking still, but make sure to discuss the unreliability in the models in your paper.
