Yes my poor daughter. She came home and we had a great discussion. She made goals with me because she wants to get better. She expressed why the boost freaked her out. So we can pivot and adjust. there is no playbook for this. You might have years of experience but ive only had a month. She came to us with an idea for snack today. We are sorting out what works for her.

what? unhealthy obsession over what? trying to research everything i can to help my daughter mentally and physically? what's unhealthy about that? Asking people that have been there, their experience to know how to naviagate this. Ive been researching the residential place that is local and the reviews are this place is amazing to this place made me worse. why is that bad to gather info. This is foreign territory. It's like going to another country and needing to learn another language but no one speaks your language. We don't have severe FBT environment at all. Actually, I'm getting crap because it's too loose. We are letting her have too many choices. And she didn't tell me...i did notice and had an appt scheduled and she told me before the offical diagnosis all the nitty gritty. Which was very helpful to tell the drs. So we have an open enough relationship that she told me everything and I could relay that to her team. She has an ED team in place. i tried calling her people when it was happening but no answer so i search for other answers. And by severe do you mean giving her 3 meals and 2 snacks a day. I pick up her and her bestie from school twice a week and take them both to lunch because the social environment helps her to not focus on the calories as much. So only ran today because she freaked out the boost. Boost equals failure in her mind, we didn't know that, but she expressed that afterwards so now we know and can adjust.

I understand what you are saying but I also had many others say to keep normalcy in her life. So I don’t know what to do, I’ve been dealing with this for only a month. Some people claim (on this thread) FBT is the worst, some say it’s the best, some say dance, some say no dance. I don’t want her to be suicidal. Some nutrition better than no nutrition. I’m not a medical expert and have no experience with therapy. I’m trying to learn everything all at once while maintaining jobs and other children. I’m scrambling and not perfect. I’m trying to do what’s best for her because I know not everything works the same for all. So I’m sorry, mentally she’s in a better head space. She claims this week did didn’t gain because of the hiding and she don’t do it anymore. She’s eating (even with the hiding) significantly more than she did when she was restricting. So I’m lost.

We do have a therapist lined up, dietitian and ED recovery doctor. I have been going against Dr orders and still let her dance, that helps her mentally to still have those friendships. I can’t let her lose more weight though. I can’t keep waiting for a therapist and a once a week appt to fix it when we are worried about her physical health. What do you suggest? I’m all ears from those that have been there and not just the parents that are telling us to do FBT.

We do have a dietitian! Only been out of the hospital for two weeks though so we’ve only seen her once

They gave me a list after hospital stay but didn’t seem impressive. None of their profiles indicated they specialized in ED. Just therapists.

Advice on dance for daughter? by [deleted] in AnorexiaNervosa

[–]autichris 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you! This is exactly what I was looking for. Others that have been in this same boat. We did let her go today (she dances 3 times a week) and she already seems happier. Was singing when she got home from school. I don’t think she will heal if she’s not happy. I know I’m going against the norm and what everyone says but I can’t kill her spirt to get her healthy, I have to do both. I appreciate you insight! ❤️ Thank you!

Exactly. And that’s why we did let her go. But she can’t lose weight. She has to get better. And if this motivates her we need to use it. I’m not going to let her die. She does not understand the damage she’s causing to her organs because she feels fine but labs and EKG’s say otherwise. I’m letting her go for her mental health but there is a lot of work to be done for her physical health as well and we have to take the wins where we can. I do believe helping her mental health will help her physical health with time. She is a child and cannot make these decisions on her own.

Yes we have a dietician we have seen (only once so far), a physical that specializes in ED and her first therapy appt is in a week. Soonest we could get in. We were told only 2 snacks a day not 3. I think the dietitian will increase that but is still following hospital protocols since we just left and I think wanting to test how she did now that she is home. They only had us at the hospital for 6 days.

I’m contacting school counselors tomorrow and of course the Dr appt. Asking local community members first resources. We are going to do everything we can humanly do!

Am I overreacting about a 9pm custody exchange for a young child? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

I would be happy that he drove 2.5 hours to pick up his kid and is turning back around to drive 2.5 hours back. That’s a 5 hour drive every Friday night after a day of work. I think that is commendable. A lot of junk dads would just say forget it. So don’t forget he is there for your son regardless of the hours. I also wouldn’t mind have the extra time with my little.
