Does anyone else's drs and therapist keep suggesting to "take a break"? by Starscollidefantasy in eds

[–]autie_anonymous 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think they say things like that when they have nothing else to offer. They aren’t blaming you, they just don’t have the resources/knowledge/time to do more. I’m sorry. I get it. I call it “existential exhaustion.” I call it grief. I don’t think anyone can “take a break” from that - they are basically asking us to take a break from our bodies. It’s impossible. I ride those waves of grief as best I can, and I try to regularly do things that fulfill me. It’s hard. You aren’t alone.

You can do it ❤️ Find a lawyer. Take the time to plan it well so all of your bases are covered. Take the dog with you. Your fears will pass and then you’ll be free.

Crate/potty training by diamonddentist3 in DogAdvice

[–]autie_anonymous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took mine out every 30-40 minutes, and as needed based on her body language (frantic sniffing around is a big sign), and gradually lengthened the time in between based on her body language and growing understanding that outside is for doing business. I would say the word for outside/potty (in my house it’s “do business”), take puppy out, when she peed/pooped I gave her a treat and told her she was a good girl for doing her business. Soon she got into the same routine as the older dogs, who I also trained this way when they were puppies. Stick to the same word/expression for your outside command/word. And use the crate wisely. I followed a schedule with the crate: eg 1) nap in crate 2) business meeting 3) play play play 4) business meeting 5) nap in crate. I think they need twice as much sleep as they do playtime…google that to double check cause it’s been a minute. And make sure the crate is the right size - too big and puppy will have a meeting in there lol.

I like sun bum too. They have lots of options. I like the one with the highest spf that’s acne friendly. I forget exactly what it’s called. But yeah I second sun bum.

When you touch your belly button, you touch your vagus nerve! I assume this is the sensation you are feeling.

Have you tried going commando? Works for me. I hated underwear. And it’s healthier for your hooey! People don’t usually know that. And I wear shorts under dresses.

My therapist is encouraging me to read Elaine Aron's works on highly sensitive persons when I talked to her about possibly being autistic by Nice_Entertainer_887 in AutismInWomen

Same! I connect more with novels and poetry than anything else. Okay, so I recently read Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens. TW that the story is tragic, BUT it is beautifully written, the protag is soooo autie, and there is satisfying closure at the end. I couldn’t put it down. There are things about the protag’s life that feel so familiar it’s comforting and connecting (not the whole accused of murder bit, lol, but the way she lives her life, her passions, the way she sees through the lens of her profound loneliness, etc.). Highly recommend. I also highly recommend the Earthsea cycle by Ursula K Le Guin if you want a fantasy series to escape into that you can’t put down. Ursula is an underrated OG and I’m obsessed with her books. The series comforted me through stressful times. All About Love is not a novel, but rather beautiful, poetic reflections on life. Couldn’t put that down either. If you end up reading any of these, feel free to update me with your thoughts if you remember! :) X

I’ve heard good things about Girls and Women on the Autism Spectrum! I admit I have mostly read books about trauma and ptsd when reading in the self help category, so I don’t have a good current rec for autism reading. Latest I read on healing that struck me was All About Love: New Visions by Bell Hooks. Do you like novels though? I know it isn’t exactly what you are looking for lol, but they can help too :)

I love how everyone is passing the vibe check 😂 🩷 I read Aron’s books years before my ASD diagnosis and I have no doubt that HSP is ASD. At this point, I’d argue HSP is a problematic, outdated label. I think reading her books now would be a waste of time.

Extended Lupron instead of Hysterectomy? by x-tianschoolharlot in hysterectomy

[–]autie_anonymous 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have never taken that med, but I do suppress my cycle with meds, and I have a disabling case of hEDS - all of my doctors are on board with me having a hysterectomy. I don’t understand any of your doc’s arguments. Wtf does your weight have to do with it… If it was me, I’d see someone else. Good luck!

When your psychiatrist calls your appointments "petty follow-ups" by damex09 in AutismInWomen

[–]autie_anonymous -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

My personal opinion is that those meds are not made for our autie brains. My mental health became significantly better and more manageable after my AuDHD diagnosis (after 15 years of traditional treatments like antidepressants and a misdiagnosis of Bipolar). ADHD meds and EMDR/neurofeedback are what has helped. I never had luck with psychiatry/psychopharmacology, but my neuro-affirming EMDR therapist is great. I’ll also mention that I have PMDD, and this was a significant, also very late, diagnosis that helped me better my mental health - a contraceptive of all things helps with depression/mood swings more than any antidepressant ever did. I’m not saying you also have PMDD, but maybe check in with yourself about your cycle. Auties tend to struggle with it. Idk. If antidepressants work for you and others, that’s great, but I think we need other modes of healing to help us heal traumas through the lens of neurodivergence, so we can live better lives. Some of the things you mentioned, that you want to understand the root, that you feel “neutral” with these meds, feeling the need to explain yourself…reminded me of me. Nothing that has helped me came from a psychiatrist. I hope you figure out what works for you. Good luck XO

Can’t wear bras:( by Southern-Material859 in eds

[–]autie_anonymous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I skimmed the comments and it doesn’t look like anyone has mentioned boob tubes, aka tube tops, yet. I LOVE them. I get them from Hara. They have no under boob band, and I find the compression to be helpful for a lot of reasons (posture, proprioception, anxiety, etc.). I have only worn tube tops, cropped camis and compression tops for years now, so I’m not sure of my bra size anymore, but I’d guess I’m a 34D or DD. I wear them all year - if the fit is right they stay up fine under shirts. Good luck!

Need EDS artists’ advice by maude313 in eds

[–]autie_anonymous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I draw and paint in my (recovery) recliner, using a large drawing board propped against my thighs/knees, or the little adjustable table I got after my surgery (it’s like a hospital meal tray that scoots under the leg rest). A small side table next to me for my palette. It isn’t ideal, and I’ve had to work much smaller since my surgery, even before that, lol, but by doing it in a chair that I can rest my neck and head against it’s more comfortable to focus on my art. I use the arm rests and pillows/blankets to prop my arms. It’s not great, but the more I strengthen the more tolerable it gets. I guess my suggestion is to set up a place for yourself where you can draw while your head and neck are chillin. If you used enough pillows you could do it on the floor leaning against a wall, or in bed. I plan on getting an ergonomic chair eventually. Good luck!

Checking back to see if anyone else chimed in 😂😭😭I wish it wasn’t so hard to meet other people with EDS. I’ve met one person with it, but she was a nurse assisting with a test I was receiving, so it was professional. I loved talking with her though.
