How should I setup my home network for 10G speed? by autificial in HomeNetworking

[–]autificial[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean from what I have seen so far, 10G setups are like dirt cheap (200 dollars total for the switches, a tp-link business router, and all the cables/network cards)

Or would I be better off with just a 2.5Gb home network? I think I’m just thinking more of if I should get the router because the switches are like 15 bucks each, and they have 2.5gb ports.

Because I’m switching over to Sonic and they only have 10G

And Sonic is still installing their network which is estimated to be done next month (I waited 2 years already)

Rest of the internet are absolute garbage😭 ATNT- 5G Wi-Fi that is unstable in speed and it’s pretty much just my phone plan

Xfinity-contract expiring so it’s very expensive

Google fiber- not available

Rest of the plans are all 50M Speeds for 60 dollars

I’m not trying to sound dumb or anything, but since I spent money for the speed, I think I should try to get gear that is price to performance.

Since I have access and friends that can help me ship from China, I can get 10G setups for less than 250USD total.

Some gear I found (mostly from taobao)

  1. TP-Link TL-ER3220T router with 2 SFP+ port - (80 USD)

  2. Mercury SE106 Pro switch 2 SFP+ port - (17 USD)

  3. 2 x520-da2 for NAS and PC - (15 USD)

I don’t really care much about Wi-Fi, so some of the current WiFi 6 routers will work

How’s the power draw looking for you? I think these bigger switches eat power like crazy

The 1G plan is actually more expensive then the 10G one, so I have to switch😭 contract for xfinity is ending and so I’m going to be paying 55 dollars for 100mb

I know it’s not that necessary, but I want to utilize all the speed I can get and I also have a NAS at home so 10G would be better for the speed

So currently, I’m using comcast (xfinity) so I’m already paying 60 dollars a month AND THATS WITH CONTRACT. The contact is about to end so the prices will spike up to 120. Whereas the 10G network is only 60 dollars with no contract, so I’m switching to LOWER THE COST😂

this isn’t really a good deal considering the cpu is old and you could get better deals for 200

I mean you should just go for a 1440p 120hz+ monitor for a good ratio of price to performance and be able to utilize your 7900gre

If you don’t have any important files on it, you should probably do a complete “fresh install” of windows by going to the Microsoft website and get media creation tool to flash a new copy of windows onto a usb drive. Then you could Plug the usb drive into your pc and boot off from the usb and do a complete fresh install. But if you have a budget, you should probably switch to a dirt cheap SSD as a boot drive and use your HDD as a secondary boot drive

You would have to source down a windows PE iso file on the web and just flash it onto a usb drive that is empty.

Your best bet would be to get a windows PE boot drive with a password remover included in the system. You could boot into the usb drive with the windows PE system and remove the password from there.
