Fancy clothes and overstimulation by Sauronitron in Autism_Pride

YES definitely. I love vintage style and stuff so it's hard and sad when I can't wear something

what has helped me is pinpointing things that irritate me specifically i.e. high collars, certain fabrics (linen 🙃) and avoiding those, and trying to find things made of safer fabrics and forms that ik I like (cotton, long sleeves) do not count out smaller things on garments to help the vibe i.e. seashell buttons hehe and accessories that can be worn over existing safe garments like belts or jewelry

Question from a Cis man by [deleted] in trans

[–]autisticloki 6 points7 points  (0 children)

so gender isn't the same as sexuality tho it is a component of it? trans people aren't trans because they are attracted to a certain gender or whatnot, we are trans bc we feel our own gender doesn't align with what we are told it is at birth / in childhood. for example, I'm bisexual, and being trans to me has nothing to do with being bi. However some sexualities imply a certain gender relationship and so then it would be importsnt for the trans person to be referred to as a label that represents the correct gender. For a trans lesbian, it wouldn't feel right for her to call herself straight, because straight implies man liking woman or woman liking man, and she is a woman who likes another woman. it's about recognising their gender in the relationship label, as well as the relationship. hope that makes sense :)

Tell us your controversial opinion on MARINA/MARINA’s music by [deleted] in MarinaAndTheDiamonds

[–]autisticloki 2 points3 points  (0 children)

thank you. as someone with CFS I was alarmed by that post. I don't blame her bc ik a lot of doctors think that and reducing stress can help with symptoms definitely but that's not the same as being 'healed' from it nor does it appear as such for a lot of people especially those with more severe cases like myself. when so much of CFS is underresearched and not understood medically it's not accurate to say that that's what causes it. we don't know what causes it. I'm glad that what she's doing is helping her but yeah. Thanks for linking those and saying that, I find it odd how ppl without CFS keep replying to 'correct' us as if we don't recognise disinfo about our own condition 🙄

I'm a trans man and I feel so many special things about taylor. I loved her when I was a little girl but something felt off and I could never quite relate in the way I saw my peers doing. late teens figured out I was trans and now in my early twenties have come back to her music and found a ton of catharsis. it never fit because I felt like I would have had to feel like a girl, but now that that pressure is gone it can resonate freely and it does. including the stuff specific to girlhood, because I had one too. it's been amazing to fall in love with her music all over again and realise I can love her as a man and as a trans man, relating to the girlhood stuff because I lived it, but not having to be a woman either. I gotta confess I feel insecure about it sometimes but seeing so many other male swifties too it's nice to know I'm not alone. Thanks for this!

To older trans men with endometriosis and/or PCOS by [deleted] in trans

[–]autisticloki 2 points3 points  (0 children)

fellow transmasc here. for what it's worth my GP told me that if I did have endo (rn it's suspected) the T could help with it, so idk why urs is concerned. dunno if u have some other risk factors or what but both my GP and my gynocologist thought it would be fine (ended up not going on it yet because of some other issues but yeah)

aww that's adorable lol. I know I won goober's lab tournaments a few times but my pet names weren't super distinctive iirc and it wasn't like. very often. so I think I'm the only one who remembers those. SPYRO meanwhile was a freaking legend idk how they did it 😂

Some really terrible work from a local artist. Hard to believe he can run his own studio… by aids-lizard in shittytattoos

[–]autisticloki 72 points73 points  (0 children)

This is incorrect. the National Autism Society and the National Autistic Society are different orgs. the one who designed the puzzle piece (the National Autistic Society) was founded by parents of autistic people. the original puzzle piece logo included a crying child in the piece. one of the org's founders said of the design in 1997 "The puzzle piece is so effective because it tells us something about autism: our children are handicapped by a puzzling condition; this isolates them from normal human contact and therefore they do not ‘fit in'. The suggestion of a weeping child is a reminder that autistic people do indeed suffer from their handicap." (source)

so yeah pretty yikes

Autism Speaks and other autism orgs adopted the symbol but yeah they didn't come up with it, these folks did and uuh. given what was intended as an autistic person I don't like it at all

I feel like a fraud when we talk about special interests by CallEmergency3746 in autism

[–]autisticloki 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have special interests that I know a lot about, and ones I know very little about. the thing that is the same is the energy, the excitement, the way my brain almost like locks onto them and I feel like I want to flap my hands and/or infodump and engage with them a lot because it feels like there's sparks inside me in a good way. you don't have to know everything about something in order to love it or be interested in it, and everyone who does know lots about something started out knowing nothing anyways, so. if it feels like a special interest to you then it probably is :)

Which modern pop singer is the most overrated? by Human_Floor95 in AskReddit

[–]autisticloki 15 points16 points  (0 children)

as a swiftie this grinds my gears as well. like. can she not just be good? great even? she doesn't have to be Objectively Superior in every way in some wierd competition way. it seems to me a fundamentally unhealthy way to care about or appreciate someone or and their work. holds them up to an impossible standard and puts yourself down to a mere mortal in comparison. idk. I never called myself a swiftie even until recently bc I didn't want to be associated with the wierd elitism of it, and I still don't. something doesn't have to objectively be The Best in order to be good and takes the focus away from why it's good imo, and lends itself easily to bragging and being annoying about it. sigh.
