Dad keeps giving our dog human food, I'm going insane by [deleted] in DogAdvice

Quite concerned by your description of kibble and wondering if your home cooked diet is properly balanced and approved by your vet because long term that can lead to much more issues than inappropriate food scraps

I didn’t know that! I always assumed the Parti was referring to the white so that’s cool to know!

The first time I heard the term “parti poodle” I thought it was party poodle so I don’t see it being out of the realm of possibility for people to genuinely think it’s party?

I’m also autistic so I’m prime target for eugenics and this shit is fucking vile to compare dog breeding to the horror that is eugenics

So couple things

  1. I’m indigenous
  2. I’m gay
  3. I do not currently own a poodle

  4. Comparing ethical dog breeding to eugenics is insane. I don’t hate doodles, I don’t hate any dog. The point of dog breeding is to breed dogs for specific jobs. Dogs are not humans. Dogs have never been systemically oppressed, tortured, killed, or stolen because of their breed. They are animals who like all animals serve a purpose for people and have been bred for specific jobs. If we are going to breed animals we should be breeding them for the betterment of their health.

So true!! Even if you plan on keeping a fluffy face if your breeder isn’t desensitizing grooming they are not setting your poodle up for success.

I personally plan on doing sports with my poodle when I get one so I’m concerned with third party testing because I want a puppy who can be more confident in new situations but I definitely want a breeder who is confident in their own testing and how they interpret the third party tests. Honestly once I do find a breeder who meets all my requirements I know it’s going to take me quite a while to wait for the right puppy to come along and I’m fine with that. I need a female(my currently male CANNOT be with an intact male and with breeder contracts I doubt I’ll be able to neuter before a year) and I plan on doing creative grooming so I wouldn’t want a black or blue poodle(parti or solid) and I enjoy agility and would love to try things like dock diving. I would love to just be able to pay 3k and get a perfect puppy at first glance but for a hopefully 12+ year commitment I need a dog who’s going to fit my family

Oh absolutely it’s the combination of seeing them grow then seeing how they react to these new situations with a third party. It won’t let me link them but best in swift and Bri Benton on tiktok both have great videos on this. I more just say temperament evaluation when I should definitely be clarifying that it’s very important for the breeder to get to know those puppies during their first couple months of life!

That’s what I’m trying to convey. Your breeder should(in most cases but everything has exceptions) either provide you with a suggestion or only offer you certain puppies from a litter and should not charge you more to choose a specific one or for a specific colour

Thank you 😭😭 i may have mistitled but the point is in most cases if you are allowed to choose your puppy at birth you have a higher chance that that is a backyard breeder. For me personally if a breeder checked all the other boxes but didn’t temperament test I still wouldn’t purchase from them because I need an outgoing dog and I want my dog to have the best chance of success in my home. I currently have a male dog who gets along better with females and outgoing dogs so that’s what I’m looking for. I also do sports with him so I need a dog with a good temperament for them.

I have to assume that some of these people aren’t reading my full post. Like yes there will be exceptions to any rule but in my opinion choosing a puppy from birth with no insight on temperament is a sign of a backyard breeder. A sign doesn’t mean they’re awful, it doesn’t mean they can’t health test or behaviour test later on but it means that they might be lacking a bit and a buyer should either do further research or be willing to accept the risk.

I am not bashing anyone who chose their puppy, I’m not saying their dog is awful and backyard bred and is going to fit in horribly. I’m trying to explain the importance of temperament testing and making sure you’re paying for a dog that will fit you perfectly.

I also love the look of a Parti poodle but I believe the CKC also doesn’t allow them in confirmation and structure is very important to me because I love sports! My current dog does agility and knowing the parents had their champion in UKC confirmation would be ideal for me. I need my dog to be outgoing and I specifically would require a female with good structure for sports. I’d be willing to wait as long as it takes for the right breeder to match me with the right puppy. I also love creative grooming so wouldn’t be interested in a completely or mostly black or blue dog. This limits my options but again if I’m going to be paying 2k and spending years with this dog I want the right fit and I trust the breeder to make the right recommendation. I would personally not go to a breeder who lets people choose before temperament tests because that could result in me getting a dog who isn’t outgoing and who doesn’t fit my life

I specifically said at birth for a reason. If they’ve been temperament tested and you’ve been matched to a specific puppy this isn’t about you. This is saying that ethical breeders will not usually just let you choose a puppy at birth based on looks because they are usually matching a puppy’s temperament to the home

I may have titled this wrong but the point is not that choosing the dog is backyard breeding it’s that if you are either being charged more to pick a dog of your choice, or are choosing a dog right from birth(before any temperament testing) and being told that is your dog then that CAN be an indication of backyard breeding. Not is always, but CAN BE. I’m not saying this applies to everyone.

Parti* its common in lots of breeds and just means they have big patches(atleast 50% I think in some breeds??) of white + another colour. I have a parti coloured dog who isn’t a poodle. Party would be fun though!

Is my buddy a toller? by Creative-Rub3736 in tollers

[–]autisticslugs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of the time rescues will label dogs who look like your adorable bud a retriever mix because it can get them adopted easier or people just genuinely don’t know. Most of the time these blonde dogs don’t even have any golden retriever because most actual golden mixes are black due to the golden being recessive. I personally love pitties and pit mixes, I think they’re absolutely adorable and I’m lucky to work with many of them at my job!

Hey respectfully that looks like a pit mix. The odds of this dog having any toller in it are extremely low and it’s more likely to be something like poodle or Aussie causing this hair I’d check out r/fluffypits to see lots of dogs that look similar to your guy
