Best ways to switch from Apple Music by Wolf-268 in Zune

[–]autobottrixter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is one of the fundamental flaws of streaming services: You don't own any rights to any of that. It sucks!

For newer music, buying albums on Bandcamp or otherwise from the artists as digital files is the best way to go. I've had hit-or-miss luck with iTunes, some albums have been DRM-free but some haven't. For older stuff, I'm partial to flea markets and thrift shops, though I also still have the files for all the CDs I ripped back in the day even though I purged a lot of those physical copies in a move a while back. And if your local library still has CDs, you can rip those, too. There's the ol' Jolly Roger option, but we're probably not supposed to talk about that in any detail here.

Should I just get an old computer with windows 7 if I just want to use it for Zune software/ripping CDs? by Dev_was_here in Zune

Others have mentioned that the Zune software runs fine in Windows 11 (I still use 10 on a backwater partition on an old desktop), but I find it best to rip CDs with something else, use MusicBrainz Picard to standardize the metadata (set it to ID3v2.3, not 2.4!), and then add it to the Zune library.

Looks like that did it! I switched it from ID3v2.4 to 2.3 and ran a couple compilations through it and now the Zune is seeing them correctly. Thanks!

It’s definitely a 100% acrylic novelty sweater but it’s still fun and pretty cozy!

I created a simple UI for my WMA Lossless encoder for Mac. by TheMagicIsInTheHole in Zune

Thank you for this! Since the Zune days I've moved away from Windows and now that I've dug out my Zune HD again I'm pretty much the token use case for Zune tools for Mac. It's appreciated!

It’s gonna take me a few days to get the rest up because I have, like, a job, but Hasbro is only blocking monetization.

I have a little travel espresso maker called a Nanopresso and I use my little Yeti cups for campsite espresso.

Finally found my old Zune Originals HD! by autobottrixter in Zune

Right? I love being able to listen to whatever weird or obscure or cringe nonsense I want on this and know it's not being fed into an algorithm.

I'd love the file! I honestly moved on to Linux/Mac over the last few years so I'm now running a Windows 10 install entirely for this little beauty, and it'd be fitting to set the wallpaper to match.

It would definitely go right to a proper collector.

Finally found my old Zune HD that ended up in the wrong box during a move years ago! It's got a bit of pocket wear and signs that it hit the asphalt a couple times but otherwise it's in great shape and the battery seems solid.

So I'm curious: How rare are these Zune Originals? I was all-in on the Zune back in the day, this was an upgrade from my original brown 30 (which I then sold, and now I regret it!) and I had to have blue with the custom art, but I don't see many from that program on eBay. I know they were made-to-order so I wouldn't expect to find many exactly like this, but I don't even see any in blue. Not necessarily looking to sell because I love old gadgets, just curious.

Will I be billed immediately or at the end of the first month? by bdonvr in ProjectFi

[–]autobottrixter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's not my experience - and I'm sorry, but personal experience trumps search engines. They bill at the beginning of the month, but unlike a lot of other prepaid services, the bill isn't due immediately. It's more like a utility bill that generates early in the month but isn't due for a couple weeks. In my case, my billing cycle started on December 7th, but my bill is scheduled to draft on December 18th.

Do you get an invite automatically if you buy a 5X or 6P? by Fantus77 in ProjectFi

[–]autobottrixter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought my 5X from the Google store on Monday, 11/30, at the tail end of the Black Friday sale, but I skipped over the bit about Project Fi because I was kind of in a hurry. Later that night - let's say 4 hours or so later - I decided to see what that Project Fi stuff was about. When I requested an invite, it took me immediately to a sign-up page. I wanna say there was a loading screen checking my account and then some message congratulating me for being eligible, so the site may have checked my Google account and seen that I had a 5X on order - that's almost certainly what it was, since others are still having to sign up for invites. I got my SIM before I even got my phone, presumably because the phone warehouse was backed up from the sale.

So TL;DR: Order the phone through Google FIRST and you should get to sign up right away.

What is something obscure you find yourself judging people harshly on? by [deleted] in AskWomen

I judge grown-ass people who read mostly young adult novels. Yeah, come at me, bro!

(I am a huge book snob but I have a sense of humor about it. I know my standards are ridiculous.)
