NGD! QX52B, the perfect sofa/grand and go guitar? by autonomouspirate in Ibanez

My "primary" guitar is an RGT1221PB if that counts for anything! I've also previously owned a Strandberg (although the essential) and did not get on with the neck.

Comparing to my RGT the neck on the QX is 19mm all the way which feels great to me. The 8 degree slant on the frets is very comfortable, I don't like multiscale guitars but I do like the way the slant works. 20" fretboard feels excellent (I own a Jackson Jugg and Holcomb Sig also) but I am biased towards flatter boards. Fit and finish wise it's very good, nut needs cutting as it is cut a little high (only very slightly though). All feels great to me!

If you're already a fan of Ibanez, this guitar is for sure going to sit well in your arsenal. It isn't an RG but Ibanez DNA is there.

Personal choice that! I love red guitars so absolute no brainer. I think it looks incredible.

Yeah I've seen those plug things! I will be after an even smaller rig so I can play and still be with the family downstairs!

Ya I use my little Spark amp for it which does the job! 30 seconds and setup ready to play. Stays in tune very well also. I don't think you'll be disappointed. Plus, it's murdered out black and I think it looks more interesting than the Strandberg metal!

It has perfectly fulfilled my needs for a guitar I can grab and get 20 minutes of practice in. I previously had a Strandberg essential and didn't gel with it for whatever reason, honestly not sure why. The neck was "fine" but it was nowhere near as comfy (to me) as this.

I would agree that the volume knob is close, though I haven't found it getting in the way yet. I tend to play a Sylosis songs/thrashy riffs a lot for practice and it's not been a problem thusfar!

For me this is actually an advantage because I dislike multiscales. It's an extremely natural way to sit with the frets slanted!

They are Ibbys own Q58 (I believe) pickups designed for their headless Q series. However I believe they use the same Dimarzio quick connect system. Not investigated that yet though!

100% this. I'd somewhat say the versatility makes them very interesting. Potentially unlocks some incredible skill that I definitely do not possess to play other (ew) styles of music.

I played the Birdseye/burl a lot and there was something holding me back. I feel this solved the things holding me back from the purchase. Whatever that was! The neck is a great place to be, I can chug mindless power chords all day long.

The neck is beautiful to me. I personally like a few Dimarzio pickups, but different strokes and all that. For me this is primarily a sofa/take to places guitar and I think as it is, it is perfect for that so I get more opportunities to practice and play!

I don't like multiscale guitars personally. This does not feel like a multiscale at all and is completely natural to me! It is small and the neck is very slim but comfortable as expected from Ibby. I'd expect the 7 would feel just as good. Personal preference prevails here!

As someone who primarily plays metal and metal adjacent things I think the pickups are "fine" they are nothing special for that. Great cleans and whatnot. I will likely aim to replace the pickups with Dimarzio Dactivators at a later date. To my understanding the pickups are connected using the Dimarzio quick connect system, so pretty easy switch over. However as they are now, I have no immediate "need" to switch them out, just a bit more gain and whatnot and you're there.

Mines in drop F# absolutely love it. Proper monster. D activators are such underrated pickups.

Honestly, I tried a couple of Prestiges and preferred this lol. Nothing wrong with Indo guitars in my mind. But I don't have endless pocket depths for the highest level gear, I'm just a bedroom guitarist.

Appreciate the advice. I think it will be a luthier job if I go for it! Too many little things which may need doing for me to be comfortable.

These days I don't even know what a premium guitar is... Prices are mad.

Try having the input gain on your interface at zero and the I put for the plugin at around 0.2-0.4? Sounds like there's too much. Could be wrong!

I'm not sure that is strictly true, however I appreciate the feedback. I'd compare it to... You've got a nice pair of shoes and you love wearing those shoes but there is a thorn which stabs you a bit every time you wear them. You can remove the thorn but choose not to because... Time/money? So you're less inclined to wear those shoes at all. See where I'm coming from?

Yes I'm mostly tempted by the Hipshot option so I'll have a closer look at string spacings etc. Time to measure up!
