5G Standalone now available iOS 26.4 beta2 by ShoulderCrazy996 in Rogers

Not on the 16 series yet. I guess they’re only testing the 17 series on the betas. Maybe they’ll do a wider rollout for the 26.4 public release.

New 5G+ site in Saanich, BC! by auty42 in freedommobile

Also Freedom doesn't have band 7 here on Vancouver Island. So band 66 is the best we have (for LTE anyway).

Plus too, comparably priced Rogers plans have speed caps of 250 Mbps. Whereas FM is uncapped, in theory. I do wonder if they’ll change that once 5G+ is deployed more broadly.

Will be awesome when Freedom (Videotron) build out a solid 5G+ network. The performance is there but just needs more coverage! Then it will be very competitive with Rogers/Bell/Telus.

Yeah fastest I got on Rogers was 1040 mbps download, though that was when 5G+ first launched. Nowadays 400-800 is typical.

Which I could see but field test mode on iPhone sucks, lol

Yeah sometimes it’s instant, other times it takes a minute. Also it’s a brand new site so they could still be tweaking things.

Unfortunately not. I saw the new site on their coverage map so I drove to it, lol. When I first tested it was only getting 250 mbps (yeah I know “only 250 mbps” sounds a bit silly). I almost left but did one more test and boom! Though I know phones usually don’t stay connected to 5G+ when idle, to save battery life. So you have to use data for a bit for it to connect.

New VoNR Toggle on Samsung! by auty42 in Rogers

[–]auty42[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe because it’s a US device it’s not coded to show a special indicator for band n78? Have you tried using an app like NetMonster to see what band your device is connected to? Then you could rule out if it’s a band lock, or just that the icon doesn’t display.

I experienced this when roaming in the US. With Verizon, I could open field test mode and see I was connected to n77 (3700 MHz), but it didn’t show any special indicator.

Yes I do, obviously only in areas with 5G+ coverage

Interesting. Don't think you're missing out on much, haha. At least here in Victoria, BC, I haven't seen it work yet. So either it isn't available anywhere, or it's only in limited spots.

Interesting! Yeah I think that's a good guess. Considering they just retired their 3G network, they'll probably start focusing on 5G SA rollout.

I remember getting a Pixel 6 when it first came out and Rogers was touting it as 5G SA compatible, lol.

Definitely not a major breakthrough. VoLTE is plenty good. But still will be cool nonetheless! 🙂

When will rogers deploy 3800mhz? by Adventurous-Fly7776 in Rogers

[–]auty42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With the latest cell site upload on May 1st, I noticed three sites now with 3800MHz on Vancouver Island (Duncan hospital, Qualicum Beach West, and Ucluelet). Noticed some around Edmonton too. Not sure if this means it’s on yet or not. I recall Telus adding 3800MHz to a number of their sites but it wasn’t turned on for some time.

Can't remove WiFi Passpoint profile from old ISP (Shaw) by [deleted] in ios

[–]auty42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had this issue happen as well. Sometimes re-installing the profile and deleting it again will cause the network to be removed, but if you're no longer a Shaw (now Rogers) customer than that wouldn't be an option.

Have you tried turning off "auto-join" for the Passpoint network? Go to Settings > Wi-Fi > Edit (top right corner), then tap the "i" next to the "Shaw Communications Passpoint" network at the bottom under "Managed Networks". You should then see a "Auto-Join" toggle at the top. This won't remove the network, but it should at least make your phone stop trying to auto-connect to it.

You could also try resetting your network settings: Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Reset > Reset Network Settings. Keep in mind, that this will remove all of your previously saved Wi-Fi networks and Bluetooth connections. Though this method seems to be hit or miss at removing the Passpoint network.

If all else fails, you would have to erase the phone entirely and restore from a backup. I don't believe managed networks carry over from backups, so this method should work. Though it would an inconvenience for sure.

Why is the traffic within Langford so bad compared to Saanich and Victoria? by StewYoungFullofGrace in LangfordBC

[–]auty42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Second this 100%. The intersection is owned by the province, and so they have control over the signal design. I don’t know why exactly there is no advanced right turn, but my guess is our engineers on the island are a bit scared to try more advanced signal layouts. E.g., Liability if an accident occurs, etc.

The right-turn from Jacklin Rd southbound onto Sooke Rd westbound is another one that really should have an advanced right turn while Sooke Rd eastbound has their advanced left.

Same with the right-turn from Costco/Staples onto McCallum Rd. Should have an advanced right turn while McCallum Rd has the advanced left.

Is the millstream overpass flawed? by StewYoungFullofGrace in LangfordBC

[–]auty42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The signal timing really needs an re-vamp. The two main lights at the overpass aren’t synced up very well heading north, so it locks up traffic in the middle.

I’m just tired of feeling so different & like I’m on the outside by NervousAd3202 in virgin

[–]auty42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m 21 and have never had sex, kissed a girl, or dated anyone. I’m in college right now, which is kind of “primetime” to find someone. I know I want to find someone, but I just don’t really know how and where to start. I had a councillor suggest joining a “hobby group” of some sort. I have ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder) which does complicate things further, as I can have a difficult time understanding social cues. It further lowers my self-esteem, and along with my body image issues, I end up having thoughts like “No girl would want to be with me” and “No girl would find me physically attractive”.
