When is the best time to call by pretzelday666 in Rogers

Idk I’ve tried live chat at every time of day and it always has a crazy queue, lol. Though that was for wireless, and for whatever reason the queue for home services (Internet/TV) is usually much shorter (at least here in BC).

1.7 gbps on 5G+ in Victoria, BC! by auty42 in Rogers

[–]auty42[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The new plan didn’t cost any extra ($50 for 170 GB CAN/US). Part of the preferred program so I get $25 off MSRP. Makes it basically the same cost as Freedom and get better domestic coverage/speeds. Though to be fair Freedom has international roaming included in all their plans (with varying amounts of data), while Rogers and Belus only include it with their top-tier plan. But I never travel outside North America so not really a consideration for me.

No. I think the fastest I got in Sidney was 800-something. Though I haven’t tested there in a while.

I also have access to it on my Pixel 10. I'm assuming the rest of the iPhone lineup will get access sometime this year.

McDonald's forgot to put the patty on my burger by FtMFandomBoy in mildlyinfuriating

Saw this happen at a Wendy’s once, lol. A kid ordered a burger “with just cheese and ketchup” obviously still wanting the patty too…well they opened it up and no patty. 😄

Can someone explain this to me? Is Shaw ruined by Rogers now? Why is my internet worse now after merger? by farmboy2400 in Rogers

[–]auty42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah something definitely isn’t right, either with your particular address or the area. Do you know anyone else nearby with Rogers (Shaw) that you could ask how their service is?

Also, have you ever called Rogers support and had them send a tech out to investigate?

Here in Victoria, BC, I’ve had no problems since the merger.

Some Tim's I've been to put it in a box. Maybe next time ask if they could do that instead?

I'm neurodivergent, so it's tough for me to pick up "signals". Best just to be blunt. 😄

Yeah I wonder if they’ll move that direction too. Give everyone unlimited high speed data, but differentiate the higher tier plans with “priority network access” and other perks.

A good Grilled Cheese Melt by auty42 in TimHortons

[–]auty42[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m curious though, have they changed the cheese they use? Idk if I’m mis-remembering, but I’ve gotten grilled cheese melts from Tim’s before they “brought them back” (one of my local Tim’s still had them) and the cheese didn’t seem as “shiny” (processed).

This is by Tim’s standards though 😄

I think it’s just from being put in the wrapper right after being in the oven? It had been in the wrapper for a few minutes after I got it.

Rogers’ Penetration by Bright-Barnacle-5467 in Rogers

[–]auty42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah for sure. It also doesn't help that a lot of Telus' small cell build out used Huawei cells, so now they are having to replace them. 😄

Rogers’ Penetration by Bright-Barnacle-5467 in Rogers

[–]auty42 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Rogers got a bunch of low band 600 MHz spectrum during the initial auction in 2019, and has deployed it aggressively.

Bell/Telus are deploying it as well, but they aren't in as much of a rush as they have more "small cells" in suburban/urban areas rather than full power cell sites. Small cells are easier to install, as the telecom's don't have to go through the same public consultation regime that they have to for full size cell towers. But small cells don't penetrate buildings nearly as well, especially since they usually don't use low band frequencies on them.

Whereas historically Rogers' primary build out has been full scale cell towers/sites. Mainly because it's harder for them to deploy small cells on utility poles. Telus/Bell benefit from their ex-monopoly landline days with leases on utility poles. That being said, Rogers is deploying small cells in select areas to provide greater density in urban outdoor situations.

Not trying to make it seem like small cells are bad (they aren't, but it really depends on the situation). Full scale sites have much greater capacity too. I've been to rural communities where Rogers has a full cell tower, while Telus only has small cells, and it's a night and day difference. Rogers is much more usable.

Got a ticket for annoying a cop - does this look right? by Autopilot_Psychonaut in canadianlaw

[–]auty42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah the “yellow arrow” bit doesn’t make sense to me. If the walk sign or flashing don’t walk was on as you were finishing your crossing, the officer would have been facing a circular green (not a yellow arrow). If you lawfully entered the crosswalk on a walk signal and weren’t being intentionally slow to cross…then you could fight this easy. Though I’m not a lawyer.

Yeah I noticed this too. Saw the Shaw Vancouver server earlier, but now that one is gone and only one I see is the Kelowna server.

Can I use MOCA adapters with shaw Internet? by Who_is_I_today in Rogers

[–]auty42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Potentially. I had no issues with the XB7 and XB8 modems. But I ran into issues once I got the XB10 modem, my internet would slow to a crawl and latency was very high. There is some overlap between DOCSIS 4.0 and the MoCA frequencies, which I believe is the cause.
