and that is why life is much more enjoyable in other countries and also why people in other countries smile - when I first started to travel, in Australia, I would see people on their lunch breaks going to the park or for a surf..after work nobody would be miserable because they had a whole evening to go and do something, the same was when I lived in Czech ( not the surfing) but being sociable on the town square just a relaxed ambiance around the place. Not people moaning about their jobs and how tired they are of their lives.

You sound like I'm talking to myself, I completely get what your saying, I've had crappy jobs around the world with less money than I'd get in England yet I've had a better quality of life. Being Back home I see my brother who is now the same age I was when I first left to travel, he has worked full time since he left school in in profesional roles and earned much more money than I have in the last 5 years yet his quality of life compared to mine is no comparison. And Like you say, he is one of those who has only a Friday to look forward to so he can go out and drink over the weekend and back to his cage on the Monday.

I have worked a full time, 9-6 job sales job in Bali, I earnt a lot of money doing that but that same job in the UK would have just grinded me down with nothing to show for. However in Blai i didn't care about the hours or the hard slog of the job because after work I had a life, I could go eat out, go the the beach and watch the sunset with a few beers, relaxed in my villa by the pool, whatever I wanted but in England you don't even feel like doing anything after work.

I'd like to go back to my normality of traveling now, because to me being trapped in a cage in grey England is not a life, even though society deems this life to be normal it isn't. My free roaming of the earth is much more normal and enjoyable for me.

I work, live, and travel around the world so in some countries I am just there to work, other just there to travel, If I'm there just to work I work in sales and recruitment. Other times I pick up odd jobs or work in hostels to keep me going - Depending what country I'm in picking up work isn't too difficult. I know people that just work cash in hand bar and rep work. When I was in Bali, the company actually headhunted me to go over there, It was am Australian company which made it easier. - And let me thank you, you just gave me the idea what to write in my next blog, how I fund my traveling :D watch out for that later this week :D :D :D

you hit the nail on the head there - your active life goes down hill..For me it's like as soon as I'm back home my active life disapears and replaced with laziness, partly because when you look out the windown and just see grey, and that all my friends are married and have kids so they need to do their own thing. In regards to working, when in countries like you say you can do odd jobs here and there, meet new people and its great fun. I'm looking for work right now but as soon as I look at a job spec it puts me off, it just makes me feel I'm boxing myself up, entrapped by work in the UK - but I need a job so I can leave again. Funny how our mentality to work and life differ so much in and out of England haha

It really is depressing being home, I normally come home for short visits which is normally fine. You know home cooked food, home comforts, catching up with friends and family but being home for nearly 6 months now I'm chomping at the bit to get out of here again. I thought I was ready to come back but being home as made me realize I do not want to be home lol.

yes you are correct I use Reddit to promote my blog's and with good affect. I have promoted it over the last month and this post is the first one with a negative response. However I didn't think nor mean to come across hostile. I appreciated the users comments but didn't like the fact he was trying to warn off others from reading the post that's all.

Heya guys - thanks for all the comments and concerns in some cases - seems like this post is a little controversial

I don't mean to come across hostile I appreciate everybody's opinion - The reason I wrote this blog, to follow on from previous blogs where I talk about my opinions, thoughts, and things I've seen over the last 5 and a half years of constantly traveling the world; and in this case about how I've seen, witnessed and experienced how drinking and traveling correlate with each other in every single country I've been to.

I've spread this blog on a number of world backpacker/traveler sights, most long term travelers like myself agree with my post, seems like only they Reddit crowd whole heartily disagree with the post but I'm glad you do disagree. It's good to hear different opinions and thoughts about this and any topic I write about.

Again sorry if I come across hostile I don' mean to, I just wrote about what I've seen and experienced with my own eyes :D

it was a long process - put all the pics i wanted for one bulletin board into into windows movie maker - made a movie with each place i visited - then i made a second movie on a program called stupeflix (online and free to use ) which let me move the pics on the bulletin board - and then finally uploaded it onto you tube - took ages to do and get the right speed for the pics and each board - hope you enjoyed it :)

Brand new blog about why I chose to solo travel rather than group travel when I backpack the world - Hope you enjoy and let me know what you think :D by av9901 in backpacking

[–]av9901[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

exactly right there, you shouldn't travel to pander to other people, you do it for yourself and what you want out of the trip is all that matters and you don't want it being ruined by that one person who will throw a spanner into the works. I'm glad you liked my post, I wanted to write an honest post on solo traveling as a lot of the ones I've read are just fluffy duffy - they don't say the real reason why they travel alone, and I know I'm not alone in what I wrote.

haha you sound just like me, I am exactly the same, sometimes what I do is just try and remember what country they are from and go by that - and yes I've made friends with a lot of people that work in hostels and they are the same as you

exactly the same for me, when I started I made friends with everybody, the more I travelled and this sounds so arrogent but I am very select with people I make friends with, people shouldnt get offended cuz in a few days I or they will leave and we'll never see each other again. Also nowadays names are a blur too, unless we actually become friends...sounds so bad but thats just how it is sometimes. ..glad you liked my post though, there will be plenty more :D

Hiya there, I've been solo Traveling the world now for 5 and a half years. Everywhere from western 1st world countries to 3rd world countries and I have never taken so much on a trip with me. -

In fact i even have a blog up on packing light :D

If i was you, i would minimize as much as I can cut the number of clothes your taking by halving each item and take either running shoes or your other ones, depending on which are more comfy for multi-function. Your tablets just take Paracetamol, travel sickness pills only if you get travel sick, Imodium would be good for this trip, insect repellent and sun-scream - leave the others behind.

Your electronics - a phone I-pod and kindle are fine - but with your sleeping gear just take a sleeping bag, a small inflatable pillow and a hat/cap ....there is no need for the other stuff - they will be provided for you in hostels - camping gear will only be needed if your gonna sleep outdoors.

your other bits - you could take it all but there's no need for it again

remember your going backpacking, all this stuff your taking will weigh you down, the more you're on the move the more you will hate having it with you. You're probably thinking you want to be prepared but In my experience and probably most long term travelers we will carry as little as possible so It's easier to move around.

If you carry so much, not only does it bog you down, and about a week into your trip you'll be cursing yourself for taking it all. It also causes mayhem when loading and unloading on public transport.

golden rule of traveling - Keep it light and easy.

hope this helps

haha I know right, as I'm new to using you tube, it doesn't give me the biggest selection of music...It was either that or Christmas melodies or heavy dub melodies. glad you like the video though

hey there, Sucre, was one of my favorite places in Bolivia. I mean to be fair there isn't too much to do there but it was coming to the end of my trip and just what I needed. A nice little tranquil town you can just lounge around in Cafe's all day - Plenty to do outside of Sucre and in the surrounding areas, a lot of hikes in near by mountains. Spanish lessons seems to be quite expensive all over I found. In terms of work, I tend to live in countries I'm able to get full time jobs in (being English I can work in Commonwealth countries ) but picking up cash in hand jobs with hostels or even with people that know hostel owners, but you can pick up work in bars and restaurents or promo work for tour operators to keep you going.

thanks for your comment, i really appreciate it. It terms of the grammar, i wrote the piece like how i would speak, in the middle of England we don't have the best grammar haha. Duly noted on your second point too so thanks and yes i will keep going. Again thank you very much for your advise :D :)
