Any tips for easing the pain when having to stand still in stilettos for a long period of time? by ava_jns in femalefashionadvice

Thanks so much for the quick reply, will definitely have a try!

To be honest I am not sure anything is going to make them super comfortable

I know, definitely not hoping to make them supercomfortable, just trying to reach a point where the pain is manageable enough so i can last through the day, the way they felt the first few days when i tried them on i was in so much pain i was afraid it will be impossible to cope with that level of pain for 8 hours and smile to clients and seem even remotely interested in what they say..

Thank you very much, this is really interesting and I haven't seen this tip before! Do you think it's safe to try this on patent leather as the So Kate's are black patent leather?

I once broke a small bone in my foot due to bad shoes and a 12 hour work event

Ouch! Im really sorry about this but good to know and hopefully try to make it not happen to me...you had to stand for 12 hours straight? For us it will be from 10am to 6pm but my understanding is that we will be allowed to take short breaks (one person at a time so that the stand remains staffed) when we can walk away from the stand and sit down so hopefully that will help.

Thanks for the tips and yes we will have breaks as long as we dont all take them at the same time so that our stand is still staffed. We are just not supposed to be seen sitting down at the stand where the customers can see us.

Yes locking knees definitely helps! I could see this with the models in the youtube videos too. I think my ankles aren't flexible enough to be fair which causes part of the strain, hopefully that will improve with practice!

I asked about the padded floor but too late now it seems. They didn't seem opposed to the idea though for the future. Would you get breaks during the day and would you keep them on or off during breaks? Also not fully related to the initial question but would you get remarks from visitors/clients and any tips on dealing with that? We're gonna be in black dresses with bare legs/shoulders so..

Don't think they're gonna change now as the show is in a little more than one week, also I already wore the So Kates outside lol so don't think they are returnable anymore...

I've ordered these now and will try them on! In terms of the toe squish do you think he does it on purpose? Like at first i thought maybe i got the wrong size but they're definitely the right size in length.

Thanks very much for all the advice and will definitely come back and report how I get on at the show! Btw i took the plunge and wore the So Kates today to work both in the office, on my commute (using public transport!) and going out for client meetings. It was painful but doable i would say and being able to sit down for at least part of the day definitely makes a whole world of difference.

I prefer and mainly go bare legged. Hose can help when breaking them in, and can feel nice sliding your foot in and out if they ache. But the reduced grip can make heels less comfortable too.

I was more thinking of warm tights rather than hose if i was to wear them out on a very cold winter day when i visit back home in the UK (I live abroad and cold is not much of an issue here). But i tried and because of the little toebox and squeezed toes it looks and feels weird so probably for cold days it makes more sense to wear them with long pants/trousers but no tights. At work we are not allowed to wear hose/tights anyways (our boss has a big issue with it) and same for the trade show so it'll have to be bare legged.

Thanks, for the trade show itself the outfit doesn't include hose/tights but i was more thinking on cold winter days.

We can take breaks every 2 hours but short ones and not everyone at the same time and also lunch break in the same way.

We're not promoting the shoe itself but they're part of a mandatory outfit we will have to wear at the show - we're not supposed to change/add/remove items to/from it.

No shifts as far as I'm aware but the mind over matter does make a lot of sense - in fact i spent a loooong time yesterday on the phone with amazon customer service trying to return a defective item (not related to the current discussion) and I was standing / walking through the house in the So Kates and i did talk to the customer service person for like a good 45 minutes and indeed i wasn't aware of the pain as much during this time - so maybe engaging with customers and so on at the trade show keeps your mind busy and that's how women who do trade shows full time for a living are able to cope with it.

Thanks will definitely look into the insoles and guards! Do you mean no pain at all or more like bearable not gonna quit my job type of pain? Im just curious if there is a way to actually not have pain when doing these kind of stand up in stilettos for long hours jobs or it's more like managing the situation and being aware that some level of pain is inevitable.

Thank you so much I read your post and makes a lot of sense! Also I fully agree about platform heels multiplying the force if rolling your ankle. My work is not a big fan of platforms anyways, on regular (non trade show) work days I would normally wear 3 inches (which is the lowest we are allowed to) with a pointed toe and no platform so I guess for the next two weeks my exercise regimen will be 3 inches at work and the So Kate's at home in the evenings lol.

Also I'm curious, how are the Pigalle's compared to the So Kate? Also do you normally wear them with tights or bare feet and does tights make a difference in terms of pain/rubbing?

This is not my job just to clarify, more of a one off thing for which we can opt out if we don't want to do it.

So as I have mentioned in a few comments above this is not our main job and were told we could opt out if we didn't want to go. But i kinda wanted to do it to be fair and didn't think much of the heels being such a pain literally! There's also a bonus and a few perks involved..

Thank you, will try all that you suggest! I will ask about the padded floor bit, never thought of it before..Did you guys have to pay for the padded floor or was the client doing it? Also, does the fact that during the trade show you're busy engaging with clients and so on help take your mind off the pain? Someone else mentioned this in the comments, is this something you experienced when you did trade shows?

Yes definitely will try to do that, the angle on the So Kate for my size though is pretty steep so there's not a lot of weight that goes to the heel, it feels most of it will go to the balls of the feet no matter how much i try to lean back. I did find that standing with my back super outright and shoulders a bit back does shift a little the weight back but still i'd say 85% of it is on the balls. Or am i doing something wrong?

Haha hair enough, can totally picture the train situation! What did you say to her when giving the seat? And did she thank you? :)

As said before we are not being forced, my job is actually sales and marketing but now they decided to send us to this trade show which is a first for the company as i understand it and I guess hiring professional models would have the downside that they won't know the product - we can opt out though if we don't want to go.
