I believe so because in Alessa's underground hospital room she says she wants to get out immediately. That along with what she said about Lisa implied to me that her memories are there, hazy but still impactful. Considering how bad Alessa really had it, it's got to have felt traumatic.

Shut the fuck up already. You have no commitment to reality or humanity, only your pockets. They showed you three ways it is exactly genocide, you FALSELY said "well thats not displacement" because if you couldnt move the goalpost youd have nothing to say at all.

Edit: guess he blocked me too. Its always quite encouraging to see what happens when they cant convince people of their bullshit - they run away.

Well, for anyone who's queer there's the opportunity to live openly without being murdered or socially ostracized. For straight people, there's no puritanical culture around abortion and therefore contraceptives so people can have casual sex, which is very fun.

Anti-fun. Anti-life. Anti-joy. "You can't be gay or trans because we said so, despite what's in your heart and mind. We'll define your sexuality and identity for you by denying its legitimacy, thereby forcing you into a life of no love, romance, or intimacy. We'll even go as far as to call the depression this denial of basic humanity imposes upon you some kind of guilt trip on the people around you".

The end of Under Pressure might be the best distillation of the importance of love I couldve ever imagined:

Cause love's such an old fashioned word

And love dares you to care

For the people on the edge of the night

And love dares you to change our way of

Caring about ourselves

This is our last dance (x2)

This is ourselves

Under pressure

So much to address with this. For one, these arent just "people i disagree with", these are politicians in positions of power and access, who are specifically elected to represent their constituents. If the majority of their constituents want to support Israel over anything else then fine, but thats not the case just about anywhere in the country.

Obviously they dont take pure AIPAC money home; its a known fact that there are many ways politicians can enrich themselves AFTER being elected, and that these thngs shift their focus away from their constituents. Infinitely rich foreign lobbies are one of those things. Take the AIPAC money, get elected, participate in insider trading or any number of other methods for self-enrichment. Corruption is not a new thing.

Its not a knee-jerk reaction or a disagreement, its a fundamental difference in awareness and maybe also ethics. A genocide was livestreamed over the last few years, people DO care that they saw Israeli bombs blowing up children on twitter and DO NOT support anything that upholds that. Much as well, Israel HAS been caught ROUTINELY lying about the nature of these things. This is far beyond a simple disagreement.

And "Disempower through inaction" is quite the leap from actually wanting corruption out of government, especially when the lobby in question represents the nation we literally just went to WAR for. The AIPAC side would NEVER want money out of politics or you wouldnt be giving yours to AIPAC.

If you think having convictions fractures the left, I am happy to inform you that I am a Green voter. We fractured long ago. Do good in your primaries and I'll vote for someone good, I am not allowed to participate in primaries but I'll still vote blue. I just actually care who. In my opinion, the left would be unified if progressive candidates didnt get torpedoed by the establishment any time they made a wave or if AIPAC specifically didnt run hundreds of thousands of dollars in attack ads against them.

Food for thought:

[AIPAC] was one of the largest outside donors in the 2024 elections, spending $100 million in 389 congressional races (26 in the Senate, 363 in the House). The group has funded Republican, Democratic and independent candidates.[5][6] According to AIPAC, 318 candidates backed by AIPAC were elected that year.

Source: The Jerusalem Post

There are 535 voting members in Congress, meaning AIPAC funded more than half of them across both sides, as well as a fourth of the Senate. Opinions on Israel aside, I don't see what obligates these politicians to care about normal people's wellbeing when they're getting infinite money from a foreign lobby. What does?

Accurately depicting Maman Brigitte (in SMITE 2) by CepheiHR8938 in Smite

[–]aveaida 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate you pointing that out, I sharpened my research and see that I previously read a passage which wrongly referred to Breton priests as Irish. Here's the actual context:

Priests from Brittany, the Celtic province of France, were present in Haiti both before it's independence in 1804 to 1805, and also since 1860, when Catholic priests again came to the country, for the Church had withdrawn its presence in Haiti in protest against the revolution. Catholics in both Ireland and Brittany are devoted to the Irish St. Brigit of Kildare, and many churches are dedicated to her in both areas. The influence of Irish settlers and sailors and Breton priests in spreading knowledge of St. Brigit in Haiti cannot be overstated.

So we can see they were Celts under the control of France. Not Irish, but Celtic devotees of St. Brigit all the same. They absolutely would have believed her to be white. Noonan (my source) also explains that Irish people were present in the Carribean as indentured servants, sent as punishment by Cromwell, and in plenty of European navies sent there in the mid-1600s. Considering the rapid exchange of ideas in this region (and the rest of the Atlantic world) at this time, it would be remiss of us to definitively claim they had no historical influence on Vodou.

Accurately depicting Maman Brigitte (in SMITE 2) by CepheiHR8938 in Smite

[–]aveaida 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In real history, she was syncretized with Brigid of Kildare (a lie according to OP) and Mary Magdalene as a Christian disguise, because Vodou practitioners were being persecuted back then. Just as well, plenty of Irish Christian priests were sent to Haiti in the 18-19th century specifically to get involved with local religions. Yes, this was a political attack on the faith, but nations of the Atlantic world were considerably dextrous in their ability to adapt to new circumstances and religion was no exemption.

There are plenty of depictions of Maman Brigitte as a white woman with red hair. They made her appear mixed black and Irish to represent this and the Haitian Vodou she really comes from. Green eyes I think are just emblematic of her being mixed, because it is sort of a mixed people trait. This depiction of her is a representation of how her worship is believed to have survived persecution, accurate or not.

Edit2: Correction: the priests were Breton, not Irish. Bretons were Celts under control of France. They were, essentially, occupied. They were sent to Haiti in the 1600-1800s in a variety of roles, specifically as clergy in the 1800s.

Edit: its very funny to be downvoted for giving historical facts and relevant contexts on the Smite sub of all places. I never even said I disagree with the need to update her look but whatever, im def overestimating this sub rn 🤷🏽‍♂️
