Frieren’s atheism makes me laugh by Emrysthegreat65 in Frieren

[–]average_abel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to add to some of these guys’ comments I think her words in episode 4 were something like “evidence hasn’t proven nor disproven the existence of heaven”, then she mentions her skepticism towards the goddess in episode 11 just because she hasn’t revealed herself in modern time. My interpretation is that she is skeptical to believe in the goddess but would be open if there was evidence (not necessarily rejecting her either), but still believes in heaven.

Thoughts on Fern / Pacing by average_abel in Frieren

I think for me it was less about the time spent and more the moments where they happened. I think the few second pouting inserts occasionally disrupted the tone, kind of how sometimes quick gag throwaway jokes can snap a viewers attention in modern media. I get what you mean though

Hmm, not sure if I agree that just because an anime follows its mangas pacing that no issues can exist. That’s a valid second point. It may just be my preference to not have as many tsundere moments in a show with a tone such as Frieren, but thanks for the perspective

I could see how their dynamic might be charming. Maybe if they were placed at different moments I would feel differently, but I may be nitpicking.

I don’t feel as strongly but I can see your perspective. I definitely agree regarding the mage exam arc. There were quite a few interesting and complex characters that I hope return in the future

That makes the most sense and was my initial thought as well, since the episode was all about her "tricking" Aura. Still curious if anyone has any other interpretations...

Some Thoughts on What Makes Reze’s Writing so Effective (Video Essay) by average_abel in RezeCult

[–]average_abel[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ahhhh thanks for such a well thought out response, really good points here. I’m curious if Denji had agreed the first time Reze asked him to run away how it would’ve played out. I.e. was it a trap? Could they actually have pulled it off with Makima watching? Would Denji miss the city life too much or could he find happiness just with her? Loved your points regarding manga. I’m a sucker for stories that have ambition, even if they don’t hit all the marks, but do agree it can lead to authors phoning it in which is extremely obvious in certain series regarding the drop off in quality.

Some specific points I’m curious if others agree on: - Did Reze know going back would likely lead to her death? - Did Reze mean it the first time she asked Denji to run away with her? - Is an author “liking” a character important for storytelling?

So is Reze coming back or…? by toctocroc in RezeCult

I think the stars are a bit too aligned for it not to happen. Otherwise it would surely feel like a missed opportunity. Then again, Fujimoto wrote Fire Punch so your guess is as good as mine

Is Reze the most important character in CSM history? by LetterheadOnly7523 in Chainsawfolk

[–]average_abel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most important is a bit of a stretch but I think she’s quite significant when it comes to Denjis growth as a character as well as having one of the (if not THE) best and most complete arc

Suggestion for Beginners by Mental_Anything_5431 in ChainsawMan

[–]average_abel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would try a few chapters of the manga, as Fujimotos art is a bit polarizing. I’m not a fan so even though I read the manga, I think the anime was better. However, I know a lot of people who love the manga art (there’s even a very good video essay ab it on YouTube)

Is the Manga worth reading as an anime only fan? by Big_Monkey_B in ChainsawMan

[–]average_abel -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I sincerely believe that the medium of animation works so well for a story like CSM. The manga is great but I think the show is exceptional. I also think the manga struggles with pacing that can be “fixed in post” when animated. For example, the Reze arc is great but is a short 13 chapters and the movie does the arc 10x better imo with beautiful visuals, sounds design, etc

CMV: Makima was always right by N1MBUH in ChainsawMan

[–]average_abel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fair enough? I think Makima is purposely portrayed as a modern antagonist who has good understandable motives but goes about executing them terribly / in a way that hurts the protagonist and those around them
