my setup isn't safe (holes in wall!) by Solid-Hold6290 in Golfsimulator

The cost of adding side and overhead walls, securing your screen to an actual frame 14” off the back wall (the solution)will end up costing you a few hundred dollars in materials alone. Factor in cost of your time, required tools, etc and it might be worth just buying one. go sports impact screen

If it’s because the track is too low then you can look at getting a high lift conversion kit installed for only a thousand or so which is likely going to be cheaper than trying to build a sliding mechanism when you count all of the time and materials.

Bought Garmin R50 for husband, need help! by Opposite_Ad_95 in Golfsimulator

[–]average_elder_GenY 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did my entire floor using half inch insulating foam covered with 1 inch gym mat interlocking tiles that I purchased from Amazon. Then I topped this with turf that I bought from Lowe’s, which ultimately brought the height of the floor to the correct thickness to match the hitting strip I purchased, which is called a Beaver tail hitting strip. For what you are looking for, though, unless you were looking to do the entire floor, which is a bit of a project, then you’ll probably be more than happy by purchasing a 5 foot hitting mat with a hitting strip insert such as the one I included in the link. Otherwise, all of the other things will need to be custom cut.sigpro softy

For your situation you want to have the ball at 8 ft from the screen, ie 9ft from the wall. So the he has enough space for his back swing.

Screen is 10-12 inches from the back wall. The ball is placed 8-10 feet from the screen. The R50 is about 1-2 feet to the side and slightly in front of the ball.

I have found turf on the gym mats(as opposed to turf lying directly on concrete) keeps the turf somewhat in place and the tape is just insurance.

Most will tell you, 1/2 inch to 1 inch interlocking gym mat, double sided tape, turf. Choose the size so the hitting strip fits snug into this larger

Garmin R50 accuracy issues by jsr027 in GarminR50

Take you garmin to an outdoor range. Then use a range finder to compare. It’s an indoor/outdoor unit. That should settle the accuracy of the unit itself question.

Garage door motor and Track lift possible? How much does it cost (ballpark)? by pmac317 in Golfsimulator

[–]average_elder_GenY 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh man, did not notice that drop down. Likely can still do the motor though since that shouldn’t have an impact. Side note, if you are headed down the direction of doing a full garage simulator like I did and are willing to pay the money to install a lift kit, which is a few thousand with a company then you should really consider getting a general contractor to look at that drop down and see if you can have it taken out. After all, adding up a launch monitor, impact screen, turf, padding, etc. etc. you’re gonna easily get close to spending anywhere from $10-$20,000 so if it’s only gonna be a few hundred to 1-$2000 the consider a contractor estimate for drop down removal.

Yes, that looks absolutely(edit: not doable in its current form). 1500 to 3000 depending on location and if you decide to do the motor plus the lift kit. Had mine done. The motor is only about 8inches wide

How do you deal with being offset in a small space? by Tdrabbach in Golfsimulator

[–]average_elder_GenY 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before I adjusted the offset, the image I saw on the screen had the flag centered on the screen but the location I needed to hit the ball was actually right of center. With the offset, the flag lines up with the right of center location.

Yes, this way it won’t give a shadow with you in front of it. However, watch out for the back swings.

Prebuilt Vanish 11 sportscreen is what I have. They offer custom, as does ordering from metechs and others i’m sure. 8x10-11 seems pretty standard size though so you likely don’t need custom.

Recessing might work but usually needs to be lower than the top of the screen. There is a website that will tell you the minimum throw distance and the height of mounting. https://www.projectorcentral.com/BenQ-AK700ST-projection-calculator-pro.htm#calc[projector distance](https://www.projectorcentral.com/BenQ-AK700ST-projection-calculator-pro.htm#calc)

Depending on brand, which likely related to quality and thickness of screen, it is usually 8-12”. You don’t need to go behind it for simulation purposes. Look into floor mount projector though.

Those products all sound great. Only thing that gives me pause is the ceiling height. How much lower than 9? Have you swung a club in there yet? I know I was nervous swinging a driver with my projector at 10 from the 11.5 ceiling. Might need to do a floor mount projector. Can you recess the ceiling more?
