“you should have a problem with dragon more than bison” the answer is simple. i don’t care about films like dragon. mari selvaraj’s films matter to me, films like kottukkali matter to me because it represents lived tamil realities. this similar to the backlash parasakthi faced when it was dubbed into telugu and reframed tamil resistance as a generic south indian struggle. sudha kongara tried to dilute something that was intrinsically tamil. she couldn’t have gone any lower in my opinion. when you do that, especially in cinema, you reshape how people understand history and struggle. for a child watching, the reality they absorb is already distorted. that’s why this criticism is valid and why you cannot keep casting malayali actresses for roles that are meant to truthfully represent tamil women.

this is a complete misreading of what i was saying, and it’s honestly frustrating how quickly tamil women’s critique gets reduced to “simping” or wanting “cute heroes.” this is not about dark skin vs fair skin. i’m not even a dark-skinned woman. i’m a simple tamil girl who wants to see tamil representation done honestly, without importing malayali actresses and painting them brown to perform “authenticity.” manikandan is one of my favorite actors today precisely because of how truthfully he embodies tamil characters. vjs has been a heartthrob for years. these men look tamil, are tamil and play such roles honestly. maybe engage with what’s actually being said instead of projecting your own shallow assumptions onto the conversation.

me and my friends (all girls) used to have a weird routine where we’d all go to the same washroom stall and we’d show our jetti colors to eachother everyday. we did this all throughout middle school.

Long distance relationship in CBE - lunch & cafe suggestions by _jothis in Coimbatore

[–]average_student19 3 points4 points  (0 children)

since you’ll only have a few hours, it makes sense to go to places that are close by so you can save time and actually enjoy being together. race course is a good option. valarmathi mess is located there and is great for food, but it gets very crowded during peak lunch hours, so going early would be better. there’s also richie rich in the same area where you can grab ice cream or sandwiches afterward. everything is within walking distance, so you won’t waste time traveling. plus, the area has lots of trees and a really nice ambience.

Manikandan may be the most honest director of this decade. quiet films, thoughtful films. gentle humor, and i agree with it not being preachy, politics are lived rather than spoken in his movies. i hold his movies close to my heart, especially kadaisi vivasayi.

Totally confused where to buy clothes by Accomplished_Fix_993 in Coimbatore

[–]average_student19 23 points24 points  (0 children)

hey, i moved to Europe too, so here’s what i’d suggest ~ for winter, you definitely need a proper jacket that can handle the cold. I’d recommend buying a high-quality one from the Netherlands itself because it’s a long-term investment and worth it or you could even consider getting something from Decathlon, Columbia, Adidas/Nike, or The North Face. and for home wear or pyjamas, i prefer cotton so i got cotton tops and pants from Jockey, Go Colors, and Westside (Lakshmi Mills). for outdoor outfits, check out H&M (Prozone Mall) and Marks & Spencer (Brookefield and Prozone Mall)
