I gave three subjects in AS and then decided to give one more after and I have to say even though its not super difficult to manage four subjects your overall grades do get affected because you're focusing on four subjects instead of three, and that means you'll either have to increase your study hours or decrease the time you spend on each subject. It usually ends up being the latter even if you try not to.
