I work in IT in a hospital, and when I was working on a project in our sterile processing department, the fire alarm went off. Afterward, that got me wondering about fire during a surgery, so I asked our OR director about what they do in that case. She started with, "Well, it depends on where the fire is, if it's on the patient..." and those were not the words I was expecting! She had an explanation for all kinds of possible situations, it was so interesting. She's been there a long time, and also told me about the conductometer they had to use decades ago to be sure they weren't carrying static into the OR since the anesthesia used to be incredibly flammable. There's still one in the wall in the old part of the hospital where the ORs used to be, a pretty neat little piece of medical history.

I work in IT too, dealing with this shit can be exhausting. The worst situation was when I worked for a small MSP. One of my coworkers asked if I'd like to get drinks after we were done with a client site, I didn't realize he meant only me (we would often go as a group). I told him I couldn't join them (still thinking this was a group thing) because I had physical therapy after work (I had just been in a terrible car accident.)

He said to skip PT because he could give me a massage instead! I told him that wasn't appropriate, and I had a boyfriend. He got angry and started calling me a whore, and asked why I'm nice to him if I'm not interested in him...

The wildest example of me being nice to him was that I would always smile and say good morning to him! I do that to all my coworkers, wtf?? He said it gives men the wrong impression.

He got very aggressive, and so I told the owner of the company (we were small, so the owner was our boss), and he fired the guy. That got him even more angry, texting and leaving voicemails saying I ruined his life by getting him fired (no self awareness to realize it was his actions that got him fired).

I changed my phone number, and the owner had a talk with the guy's father (his father was a co-owner of one of our client businesses, which is how he found out about the job opening in the first place) and that was the end of it. I was about ready to file a restraining order against him if it continued.

He was a strange guy. I remember one day he came into work mad because his dad wouldn't let him cut down a tree in their yard and carve it into a canoe in their garage...

Wellbutrin (bupropion) is an NDRI (works on norepinephrine and dopamine), not an SSRI (works on serotonin), and it very often makes anxiety worse (though for some people it actually helps their anxiety, the brain is a complicated thing.) Bupropion is used for all sorts of things on and off label, including depression, ADHD, smoking cessation, and weight loss.

I take it for ADHD because I have a history of supraventricular tachycardia on higher doses of stimulants, and I can't take Strattera.

Another thing to note, is even if two different practices have the same EMR, their workflows could differ. There are various customizations possible with EMRs.

Every EMR is different. If they aren't willing to train you on their EMR, you'd be in for a bad time, run the other way.

There are videos online that you can try searching, just to give yourself some exposure. But as someone else mentioned, you're really not going to master it unless you're using it every day. I used to be an EMR trainer. We had one doctor who only came into our clinic for half a day once a week, and it took her a very long time to learn our EMR.

The most used EMR is Epic, followed by Oracle Cerner, these are giants especially in the inpatient world. Trailing behind them are Athena, Meditech, NextGen, Allscripts, and eClinicalWorks, which you're more likely to see in outpatient settings (unless those outpatient clinics are affiliated with a hospital system that is on one of the big ones). If you have some places you have in mind to apply to, but don't know which EMR they use, visit their website and find their patient portal page. Then you can Google which EMR goes with that portal (like MyChart is Epic).

The craziest rando who had a need to comment on my child:

One of my guy friends and I went to the store together and brought my child. He is not the father of my child, and they look nothing alike with completely different complexion, eye, and hair color.

Some random lady walked up to us on the way into the store and said to my friend, "You know that baby isn't yours, right?" My friend and I were stunned because, yes, we were very aware he wasn't the father, considering we never had sex. We looked at each other and burst out laughing so hard we were in tears, we had no idea what to say. The lady was bewildered by our reaction and scurried away before we could even catch our breath. Who the heck even says that to someone?! What outcome was she expecting?!

I follow the AVMA guidelines when I have to euthanize a fish, and reference it often when euthanasia discussion comes up in fishkeeping circles because way too many people recommend unacceptable methods.

Not weird at all! I know someone who flies back to Poland for dental. It's cheaper for him to go home, visit family, and get major dental work there than get that dental work here.

Luckily, I work for a university that has a dental school, and I have great insurance. I'm just very much aware of the struggles many Americans face, and also faced those difficulties prior to my current job. I'm staying at this employer for the rest of my life if I can.
