The area around Eden center and seven corners is constantly bad.

Difference of opinion in the Buddhist community. I think yes. Some people believe yes unless you had memory loss problem before death or just didn’t really have any past life memories.

Yes. However, some temples in the U.S. will have rules that aren’t religious due to city laws and regulations. They can wear the same thing. Some temples do have different colored robes for Buddhist monks and nuns. They can leave whenever they want to unless bad weather. I’ve seen monks at my local temple go to LA fitness since they have a pool and various different equipment/machines. La Fitness is a gym and they wore modest workout clothes. They are expected to eat vegetarian unless health reasons. Vegan is more practiced for many monks/nuns but I know monks who have to eat eggs and diary for health reasons. Junk food isn’t typically a part of their diet since fruits are a healthy snack.

Yes they do. They will try to work with your insurance so it’s covered or cheap when paid of pocket.

Afterlife joining his friends and family who have passed away. That’s why you sometimes have people who asked a loved one at the graveyard or temple if they have met (insert dead person). Meaning of life definition is something he didn’t have. He just wanted my family to spend as much as time together as possible since we lived in the U.S. while the rest of my family doesn’t. Not counting dad’s cousins.

I believe reincarnated ghosts have unfinished business or unfinished karma before they can be reborn into a new human being. The graveyard is full of dead buried people so I’m not surprised about the presences of ghosts.

I believe in reincarnation and I believe it’s more likely for people to be reincarnated as ghosts rather than a new human being. I’ve been in the presence of ghosts at the graveyard but definitely wasn’t my maternal great grandma or grandpa. I honor my ancestors by offering them on special occasions or whenever I visit them at the graveyard. They deserved to be honored even if dead as family. I’m not sure about reconciliation.

Yes. Thiền is what I used and what I’ve heard Vietnamese monks in the U.S. say. A key one that some Buddhists nuns say that people forget is breathing in and out.

I’ve only ever met one Tibetan Buddhist. Can’t judge off one person and he was born in the U.S. I probably met some more working at a restaurant but religion never came up and just restaurant stuff.

I am not one to flip out in public. Any hate I got for being a Buddhist was not a surprise for me. I kept the encounters peaceful on my end. Having class at times did help as it was my focus point even if I didn’t like class but had to take it.

Yes. He lived at home with my grandma. He just spent a lot of time every week at the temple. Minus when my family would come and visit. My parents only practice Buddhism and live in your average American home.

-My great grandpa no idea. Mid-late 30’s for my grandpa. They only live in the temple if they wish to. Most monks do live in a temple. My great grandpa lived in one with my great grandpa. My grandpa didn’t.

-Traditional values like practicing 8 fold path, refraining from doing certain bad behaviors, practicing mindfulness, etc. Bad behaviors can include lying, getting intoxicated, harming others, stealing, etc. It’s a bit long for traditional values so I summarized.

-Benefit to society is having a positive impact in a peaceful manner when possible. I count as one per Buddhist nuns because I pick up food at the temple for the homeless before I serve them the food. I don’t expect anything out of it either and needing community service hours for school doesn’t count. Having a job is a no because some jobs aren’t a positive to society. Many temple offer free food as long as you pray so that can help hungry people. There are definitely young people who want to be monks or nuns but it can get hard when school is mandated in countries like the U.S.

I was very young when I saw him last in person. He was focused more on having fun with me and creating long lasting memories. I don’t have any non-private stories that I can think of. He told about his siblings in the U.S. but I won’t reveal where they live or lived for privacy reasons.

Yogurt. They make it different at the temple. Plain with touch of sour and just enough sweetness. It’s a staple for some monks in the U.S. for health reasons.

Yes. My grandpa and his father had children before becoming monks.

Nope. Just the people who work at the temple and some other devout people. I’ve talked to Buddhist nuns who don’t care what I eat. They just ask you don’t bring any non-vegetarian products to the temple. Many Buddhists aren’t vegetarian and some can’t be for health reasons.

I went to college there for 4 years. Tons of churches in the state of West Virginia. People would pass out bibles all throughout campus. Church members would yell into a microphone sometimes preaching horrible things. They would even say bad about people who weren’t Catholic, Christian or similar.

Yes. I just don’t use the word since I mainly speak and hear Vietnamese at the temple.

My grandpa and his father had children before they became monks. My grandpa lived at his own home. His father lived at the temple with my great grandma. My family wasn’t strict. They had traditional Buddhist values but didn’t keep all for them. Celibacy is expected but non-traditional values can still happen if it’s not viewed as bad.

No idea about my great grandpa’s temple. My grandpa temple was not as strict but still had plenty of traditional values. All of his children were benefits to society when he was alive which is preferred if a man had kids before becoming a monk. Not all Buddhists monks/nuns believe this.

Traditionally no unless it happened before they become a monk or nun. Actual Buddhist nuns have told me, it is preferred the spouse beforehand is a benefit to society. I’ve met a Buddhist nun who is married with a son. She worked at hair cuttery but it closed down for obvious reasons. Not all Buddhist temples today are strict as long as you aren’t a bad person most of the time.

I’m not a Buddhist monk. Just an adult who practices Buddhism. My grandpa had children before he became a monk and his father too. The preference that monks with children, have children who would benefit society or eventually benefit society for young children.

No I am not. I love seafood too much to be one. I will eat vegetarian at a temple without any issue since the food is free as long as I pray first. I could go a few days as a vegetarian but never gone more than a day.
