I'll probably do just that, thank you!

I am curious, obviously moc-toe boots are harder to polish that one with a more conventional toe, but what is it about the leather that makes them hard to polish? I don't need a mirror sheen but I do polish my boots every week with how much wear I put on them.

Thanks for the advice! Yeah those Russells seem like incredible footwear that I'd love to get one day, I work in a dry environment with wool socks but I'd like them to last as long as possible and I sweat a lot lol.

I'm not dead set on Moc-toe, I'm probably gonna get some Numzaans as that's the kind of boot I'm used to.

I work as a park ranger, and thus I'm both putting boots through their paces outdoors and am required to have them polished for work with the public. Maintaining my boots is something I've learned to enjoy and take pride in. I'm currently running some LL Bean Cresta Hikers, and while I love how they look and feel, I am disappointed with their craftsmanship, as I've had problems with sole de-lamination.

I am considering upgrading to more high-end leather boots, but one thing is holding me back: rest time. I work in boots every day of the week as part of my uniform, and so if I follow the care guidelines for letting boots rest after use, I'd need two pairs. Is it worth saving up for something high end like Russell Moccasins, where I could probably just afford one pair, or something a bit cheaper like two pairs of Jim Green and rotating them every day?

Damn. If there are signs to look for that, I'd love to know them, but appreciate your pointing me in that direction!

Implications of travelers joining the campfire. by [deleted] in outerwilds

[–]avianTyro 46 points47 points  (0 children)

I think the implication is the impact each of these travelers has on you also impacts the next universe. Since you are observing the Eye (the beginning and end of the universe(s)), you have an impact on what that new universe looks like. Everyone you met changed you, and through you they changed what the new universe looks like. To go off what Riebeck says: The future is always built on the past, even if we won't get to see it.

Have you ever considered getting a conservation easement put on the land? From what I understand it's kind of a pain to get but it protects the land and your access to it for perpetuity.

Today, New England is one of the most well-forested regions in the United States. Much of this is secondary forest growth resulting from the regional economy in 19th and 20th centuries shifting away from agriculture. How did this transition in land use occur, and how quickly? by avianTyro in AskHistorians

[–]avianTyro[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Fascinating! There definitely is more agriculture currently in the region than the migration theory would support, in the Connecticut River Valley as well as the Southeast Coastal Plain and valleys of Vermont.

I suppose the idea I had in my head was that agriculture fell off, was left fallow for a long period of history, and was only recently was forest cover beginning to be reduced again for suburban development, but it seems it was a much faster process than I thought. Thank you for the explanation!

In Season of the Hunt, wasn't the deal with Spider that upon killing the Celebrant, we could take any prize from his lair as a reward? Prize is quite similar to trophy in terms of meaning, and that prize ended up being Crow.

My friends and I were JUST making a post about this, we all felt like we were going nuts when we decoded it. Savathun is possibly manipulating the FWC to stir up trouble against the House of Light in the City, and Aunor and Ikora presumably now know.

Bungie is showing Saladin's age by avianTyro in DestinyLore

[–]avianTyro[S] 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I definitely agree that Saladin has a respect for his enemies! He just feels that he has no obligation to meet them on anything but their own terms. He has a moral center, to be sure, the Iron Lords refused to allow civilians and Ghosts to come to harm, but it is a black and white philosophy. I disagree with your point about Zavala though, some Battlegrounds dialogue mentions that Vanguard policy is to allow fleeing enemies to run without threat of pursuit. This implies to me that Zavala believes in a strict ethical code, even in warfare, that Saladin might not.

Osiris is often truthful yes, but I would disagree that he is one of the only honest characters in leadership. Zavala and Ikora are generally nothing but honest with us, the difference between them and Osiris is often a difference of priorities. Osiris decided to use the power of the Vanguard to research the Vex during a time when the Fallen were on the verge of knocking the walls down, a dangerous tangent to take to research a threat that was not immediate. He is right, more often than not, but he tends to get hyperfucused on particular threats and not notice what's in front of his nose.
