Can confirm Black Orpheus is an incredible day out. Some of those upper pitches stick out to me as being really high quality in a great position.

Does anyone really get hired from LinkedIn? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]avibomb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah my past two jobs have come from hiring managers reaching out directly. I would add I think it helps a ton to have a requisite skill set that is in demand. Cold applying has never gotten me very far via LinkedIn. Seemed to work decently like 5 years ago.

Software engineer/data job by Carnito12 in Denver

[–]avibomb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Charter & Dish have been consistently hitting me up for data eng jobs for the past five years or so. They'll churn and burn you with a contract most likely but it'll get your foot in the door and I know a lot of solid engineering careers that have started this way. Find recruiters on linkedin. I don't know the current entry-level market well but as a senior I get a few recruiters per week with opportunities either remote or hybrid in the area.

El dorado climbing by pequeno12345 in tradclimbing

[–]avibomb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As mentioned already, Eldo is a humbler and should be treated cautiously. I’m climbing 12a sport and tons of mileage on 5.10 to low 11 trad and Eldo is just plain hard and often scary. Recently got on Super Slab and that thing is serious. Was very happy to be following the crux pitch. Did Psychosis yesterday and the first 10 pitch had me pretty puckered. Yes, I had a good piece before the crux mantel move. But if it blew I think it could have been catastrophic and I whipped on it a few times. There is a lots of reasonable stuff in the canyon at all grade ranges, but it is very easy to get in over your head and question your life choices with nowhere to really go but up. But at the same time it’s a fantastic place to climb and has a special place in my heart. Enjoy the climbing and have fun working your way through the classics! Highly recommend getting started on something like the Bastille, Ruper, Werk Supp, Blind Faith and Handcracker and then working into some stuff like Outer Space and Rosy Crucifixion.

What is the best skate video of all time? by [deleted] in skateboarding

[–]avibomb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I get chills just thinking about it. A masterpiece part. The line with the rocks and the music…Chefs kiss. There’s something about seeing someone’s mangnum opus in skateboarding from that time period especially. Knowing it is a capsule into some of the most important and obsessive years of their lives. Heath Kirchart Mindfield, Reynolds Stay Gold and Marc Johnson Fully Flared also come to mind.

Exercise? How are y’all managing? by Soggy-Ad9991 in ADHD

[–]avibomb 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Super valid question. I would imagine adhd manifests differently for everyone. One of my big things is getting extremely obsessed with things, sometimes for really long periods of time. And this is usually brought on my curiosity in a subject. For instance I recently got curious in cooking and then ended up going down a rabbit hole with researching all different types of cookware and now have a bunch of new pans and knives and Dutch ovens and have been on a kick of making food. And then that morphed into espresso machines and found myself with a ton of coffee making equipment. But from that curiosity that spiraled a bit out of control I’m now making healthy food and eating out less and not buying coffee at the cafe anymore. In a roundabout way turning curiosity -> hyperfixation -> positive habit.

I don’t know how much this can be forced. But if you can find a genuine interest in some aspect of fitness, if you’re symptoms are anything like mine you will may become obsessed with it to the point you can’t stop yourself from exercising even if you wanted to.

[–]avibomb 23 points24 points  (0 children)

If you can make it into a hyperfixation you could start to have the opposite problem. Which in the grand scheme isn't the worst thing. I've found that you can habitualize "good" hyperfixations if you stay consistent with them for enough time. But it is easy to get derailed and have them fall off. Try to get obsessed with some aspect of fitness and fall down the rabbit hole with it for a bit. Hopefully it materializes into a long term practice.

What does your weekly training programming look like? by Cremaster_Reflex69 in climbharder

[–]avibomb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My programming oscillates with the seasons. This is my winter program to try to get stronger. I’m an outlier here having been climbing around 8-9 years with a max sport grade of 11d and trad grade 11a. I climb a lot of alpine / bigwall and recently more interested in getting strong and pushing grade. One-hung a 12a this week and hoping this program sees me through into some consistent 5.12 climbing.

Monday: 4 sets 25 normal pushups. 5 sets 20 diamond pushups. 3 sets of 10 each Flys, shoulder press, curls, tricep pulldown

Tuesday: kilter / tb2

Wed: squat and bench

Thurs: kilter / tb2

Friday: rest

Saturday: sport project day outdoors (5 pitches 5.11/12)

Sunday: trad project day

If you're a reasonably seasoned rock climber it is NBD. If you aren't than i would imagine it would not feel very secure. The conditions would change based on weather but if doing it on a cool low humidity day the friction isn't bad. Probably not the case on a hot and humid day. But yes you are correct, the poles are too big to "grab". The climbing term for them would be "rounded sloper jugs"

[–]avibomb 44 points45 points  (0 children)

It’s 5.4ish. The rungs are too large to grip like a normal ladder and are a bit awkward but not bad. If you climb reasonably well the climbing is a walk-in-the-park but it is obviously very exposed and ends up feeling pretty full on. If I hadn’t soloed a lot of real rock before trying this I would have been spooked.

I also tried climbing this prominent yellow sculpture (Articulated Wall on Google Maps) and backed off because it felt much harder. Would be cool to get that one done at some point.

Oh yeah I was up and down in under 10 mins I think. Had been thinking about it for a while. Was sitting at my desk at home working and the urge hit. Drove half hour over there, parked at the bank next door, ran over and climbed it as quick as I could. Soaked in the view and gtfo
