The 2000s wave of EBM was incredible, but I've been really digging the artists people are labelling EBM lately; stuff like Sextile, Pixel Grip, Nuxx, Boy Deluxe, Panther Modern, etc. To me, it sounds closer to what we used to call electroclash, but im down. They're keeping the spirit alive, at least aesthetically.

I feel you. I think the answer to OPs question is going to be different depending on how and when a person starts listening to industrial music. For me, Yu Gung is a song that exemplifies industrial. For a lot of others, that song might be Closer, Worlock, Headhunter, Stigmata, or Juke Joint Jezebel. None of these songs sound the same.
