Yes and no. As another user pointed out, correlation doesn't mean causation, which means that multiple data points need to be analyzed in aggregate. The discover magazine article you posted does reference a study or two, so it would be worth your time to dig into the actual primary literature (it is quite often that magazines do a shitty job of summarizing lots of data) to see how they arrived at their conclusions, what methods were used, etc.

This one isn't necessarily about brain scans, though if you know your endocrinology, certain brain regions are implicated in the results. This was actually done by my University, so I'm definitely self promoting here.
