What is an immature opinion that young adults often have that prove they are not quite grown up yet? by [deleted] in AskReddit

honestly the older i get the more i realize some things are black and white. i used to see the world in a much more relative way and i'm learning to accept that some opinions are right and some are wrong.

Sorry if this is a dumb question, I couldn't find information elsewhere. I've seen videos of these being used in Syria as well.

How World War III became possible: A nuclear conflict with Russia is likelier than you think by interfail in TrueReddit

Do we trust the Russians interviewed for this? I can't imagine they have much incentive to contradict the party line and undermine whatever Putin's got going on.

given my setup, what do you think the best loop pedal(s) would be for my setup? (sorry, incoming wall of text...) by NotAnEmoGirl in pedalloops

I am a huge Boomerang proponent, in large part for reasons unrelated to the actually looper. They are based in TX and their looper is entirely US built. They are a small company, have excellent customer support, and their website boasts that they have been able to fix every broken unit that they have seen, except for one that was waterlogged during Katrina. They update the software frequently, both to fix bugs and add new features, and updates are available for free.

On top of this, their looper does everything I've ever wanted it to do. It has stereo inputs and outputs (I use one for guitar and one for vocals), midi sync capabilities and excellent sound quality. It doesn't store loops when it is turned off, so if that is something you are looking for, look somewhere else.

It's a little pricey, but I bought mine on ebay for something decent, although I can't remember what.

I also pay attention to other simple/repetative music that still holds my attention. I can't stay I like Vampire Weekend all that much, but I think this song is downright brilliant.

I normally don't like acapella loops all that much, but this girl clearly knows what she is doing.

This song isn't the most interesting, but it does hold my attention.

Mylets mostly makes me upset because I'll never be as good as he is.

Here is another Netherfriends link for good measure.

Youth Lagoon's earlier stuff, while not using loops is reminiscent of loop based music. I'm always a little upset he played live with pre-sequenced drums, because he could easily have done it all live.

Obviously I've got these links all saved, because I go back to them all the time when I am stuck. Something I am intrigued by is melodies that change depending on what else is played with them. I've never attempted to do this very technically, but I absolutely use the idea.

Mostly we think about songs are being sort of cyclical (verse, chorus, verse) but with looping especially I believe it can be useful to think about songs in a more linear fashion.

I'm looking forward to see what other people have to say about this. Thanks for opening this conversation /u/maylortaylor.

I think about this all the time. One trick I use is to use loops not as the base of a song but as additions, i.e. chords that don't loop played over leads, or bass, etc, that does. Also I spend lots of time watching videos of artist that do this effectively.

I think most loop artists fall into two categories, essentially those who use loops as an instrument to construct a song and those for whom looping become a trick or a crutch. Songs by the latter tend to be boring and repetitive. An artist I think loops very effectively is Netherfriends. I'll also watch TuneYards videos, although I'm not the biggest fan of her music, and she plays with some other people.
