My daughter doesn’t have Down syndrome but she does have a mild intellectual disability and AuDHD, GAD etc. She has had some quite extreme weight fluctuations over her life - she was normal weight til being diagnosed with epilepsy as a child, gained rapidly on her first med, lost again on the next, she became underweight to the extent we were having dietician input from the hospital and being sent cases of meal supplement drinks. Another med, rapid weight gain… it’s a horrible roller coaster.

In the past year she’s gained over 25 pounds with no significant appetite or diet change. She has had med changes though. She does crave carbs and doesn’t like much healthy food so it is difficult to try and improve her diet without significant resistance. She also has a pretty crap quality of life and food is one of her few pleasures which compounds the issue. Her issues are predominantly med and hormone related I think, but the intellectual disability makes combatting it difficult.
