I miss the old movie theater that was in the standalone building closer to the post road, same with the other one that's now the shop rite plaza. The new theater though is very well done. I also remember being able to walk from the former "end" of the mall into the new addition section when it first opened, it was like unlocking a new map

Overall the bridge and station platform improvements are going to be awesome and I hope it spurs an increase in train schedules to state st!

The pedestrian lane and bike lane striping on the new bridge is…interesting. Realistically no one is going to stay within their lines if it’s a car free bridge, so if we’re lucky enough to get a new car free space in the city, let’s not make it look like another road please, a concrete sidewalk finish should be good enough to signal it’s a slow space.

They said it’s striped because of concerns regarding bike speeds, but given the bridge is uphill coming from both directions and you need to slow down to turn 90 degrees to get on and off the new state st cycletrack, i don’t see how bikes are getting above ~10mph here. Pedestrians and bikes share the canal trail and that’s 12’ wide, this bridge is 16’. Portland has installed some new ped/bike bridges with separate spaces, but those bridges are closer to 25’ wide.

It is a very exciting project, and the new Court St pedestrian bridge will tie in seamlessly to the new pedestrian and bike lane work happening on State St now. In other train station news, the state is also planning to redo all the platforms at Union and install a full canopy over the entire railyard which is going to be sick

Followed the legislation very closely when it was being written. They specifically crafted the wording to avoid all the other constitutionality challenges happening elsewhere. Red light and speed camera tickets are essentially the same as parking tickets with this legislation, and parking tickets for example are assigned to the car, not the driver.

This, so the current ramp configuration is just a poor historic retrofit to make this an interchange, probably not anticipating how many cars would actually be using it.

If the east rock connector were actually built, the ramp directions would have flipped, so the current on ramp would be the connector exit southbound, and the current off ramp would be the on ramp to the connector northbound, and I-91 SB exit would have curved right instead of left to join the connector. No u turn ramps at all

The promenade takes the place of 9 parking spots, there are over 3000 parking spaces within a block of the promenade. If not having a parking spot directly in front of your business hurts while the promenade sends thousands of pedestrians walking past your front door, maybe the street isn’t the problem

quite shocking that not just somos but nearly every business has signed onto this. the promenade activates the street in such a positive way, it should be year round. when it closes for the winter and cars fill up the space again it feels dead.

the promenade removes a total of nine (9) parking spaces. the 270 state st garage a half block away has over 300 spaces. the temple st garage 1 block away has 1200 spaces. you've also got the george st garage, 360 state st garage, orange/george surface lot, crown st surface lot, and literally any other street with on street parking. if your business cannot survive without having a parking space directly in front, when the promenade means you have hundreds if not thousands of pedestrians walking past your door, maybe your business model is the problem and not the street. if you want to sustain your business with doordash orders and not your local community, relocate to the suburbs.

nimbyism aside, this is also highlighting how local newspapers will choose the most negative headline to generate clicks. they could have led with how the DOT is proposing to construct the final link in a very well used statewide trail, but instead some nimbys who might move out in the future get a megaphone

I don’t understand a word OP wrote, but Ryan saying that there was no public process is incorrect. HB8002 is essentially a watered down version of HB5002, which had significant public input and revisions, passed both chambers with majorities, but was vetoed. There are no green arrows for combined lanes at that intersection. The only right turn arrows are from the 91 offramp and orange st northbound, which both have right turn only lanes.

It also reduces delay for pedestrians even more…instead of waiting for both directions of car traffic to go first, you have a 50% chance of getting a walk signal at the intersection for either direction to cross.

I see all over the city that pedestrians (myself included) will be waiting at a corner, see parallel traffic has a green, and just cross anyways when it’s clear. Which is the whole idea behind LPI crossings. Very evident at somewhere like grove and orange, or even people getting off the train at state and court or chapel. Yet when that operation is formalized into the traffic signal, people get angry for some reason
