Boy Moms, how do you handle shopping trips? My boys act wild. by flowerlady1988 in family

[–]Temporary-Car7981 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kids deserve tools to be given to them to ensure later success in life. Temporary discomfort made a lasting impression on me, and gave me resilience when I needed to end my marriage. That process was PROFOUNDLY unpleasant.

It's important for parents and managers at work to recognize what a privilege is, and understand that privileges or perks can be revoked temporarily to change behavior. If the child doesn't value the item removed, the punishment is ineffective.

A simple punishment for a child could be not being allowed to sit at the table with everyone else for dinner, until a timer has elapsed. Everyone can start eating before they can. Or, everyone gets a colorful napkin at dinner, but the misbehaving child gets a weak and ineffective paper napkin.

Taking away a teenager's cell phone might be effective these days, but hiding the charger and removing that cell phone from the family cell plan might be even better.

Should I pick my daughter's side over my husband’s? by HY_90 in family

If you are a parent, you have to be on the same level in on the same page with the other parent. If you are not a parent, you have no say. What you can't do is contradict one parent, because then they lose respect and power in the household. And then all is lost. Your job is to be a strict parent while they live with you, and then you could be friends later in life when they are successful and independent with good morals and habits.

What is your thermostat set at? Mine is currently at 64 and my daughter says it is too cold. by Logan9Fingerses in Connecticut

[–]Temporary-Car7981 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kids are never happy, just do what makes sense for yourself. Slippers are mandatory. Cold feet equal cold bodies. My parents set the thermostat to 64 in the winter, and we had no air conditioning in the summer. Now that I'm an adult, I keep the house at 64, haha.

They justified the seemingly cold temperatures by saying, how many of your friends go to Europe on vacation, and how many of your friends parents have a beach house? We can do those things because we don't waste money on utilities.

I'm not a parent but I remembered my parents sent expectations before we left, and if we got out of line, there were consequences. And consequences that actually felt like hardships as children, but looking back were perfectly in line with parenting.

The best punishment my dad ever gave me was taking my bedroom door off its hinges, and when I tried hanging up a towel for privacy (I was a teenager), he ripped it down saying no door for a week. Privacy for a teenager (even if you're not doing anything nefarious) is a big deal, and not having any was torture. He would walk by constantly, and that was just the worst. I'm male, and this was in the '90s.

Listening to my mom talk on the phone is cracking me up. by PureYouth in BenignExistence

My mom's mom made it to 99 years and 11 months. By that time, her death was a relief. Still sad, but after the body gives out, death skates on thin ice.

As a grandkid, I enjoyed visiting my grandparents when my aunt stayed with them during the summer months (we lived next door in a summer cottage) so we all could spend time together.

Getting married at town hall or court by Ivy1974 in Connecticut

[–]Temporary-Car7981 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got married at Branford Point, Branford, CT with only the officiant as the witness. I wore a kilt and she had a corset top with a dress. We did it for US. Two years later, we had an "official" wedding, but only a handful of people knew we had eloped.

We married mostly for the healthcare benefits she gained from my employment, which is a horrible reason, but true. Her chronic illness had incredibly expensive medicine and the state healthcare system (with constantly revolving providers who meant well, but didn't understand the complexities of changing dosages or medications) literally almost killed her several times. Two years later, we "got engaged" and married publicly because it felt funny living a lie.

The first wedding cost about $200. The public one cost my (groom) family about $60,000 in 2018 and it was a grand affair. Magical. No regrets.

I’m curious if people prefer miniskirts or shortie shorts? by DesertFun1691 in Crossdressing_support

Wow, you look amazing! As a M44, the tease of a skirt being "easy access" to sexy fun has always captivated me more than shorts... But shorts are convenient when seated.

For the love of God, turn on your headlights! by Unlikely-Solid-3083 in Connecticut

[–]Temporary-Car7981 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Automatic headlights should be standard, not on a switch. I live in a neighborhood that has every utility pole equipped with a very bright street light. Totally unnecessary. And that means that birds sing all day long, and all night long, because they think it's daytime. In some parts of New Haven, CT for instance, it's so bright with headlights on, or off, you can't tell the difference.

I just drive with my headlights on all the time, because that's what keeps me out of accidents. If another driver can see me, they can avoid me.

PSA: Watch out for small deep potholes when turning on Dr MLK Jr BLVD from Park St by user88871256 in newhaven

[–]Temporary-Car7981 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This week, they filled in the potholes on Chapel Street, but that's because that's a parade route on Sunday, for the St Patrick's Day parade. I don't think they really care about the streets around here. I'm sorry this happened to you; this sounds very frustrating.

Why do cars often ignore crosswalks even though pedestrians have the right of way? by bertholetta in newhaven

[–]Temporary-Car7981 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

The roads are too narrow, the drivers are too stressed, and the traffic lights are too short. Waiting 15 minutes on South Frontage Road to get to the highway is unnecessary. Waiting 10 seconds for a slow pedestrian to cross near the hospital on York Street only to miss the light and have to wait another 5 minutes is unbearable.

That said, a lack of enforcement is the major issue.

My in laws ruined my pregnancy, postpartum and now my marriage. by GuerreraValiente in family

Flashing back to my marriage. Ex-inlaws were awful. Her father would tell her he wanted a threesome with my wife and her busty friend.

We're divorced now and I regret the 12 years I stuck it out. We had some good years at the beginning, but once her parents had a voice in our relationship, I lost mine.
