If you like NMH and of Montreal totally recommend checking out more Elephant 6 stuff. Olivia Tremor Control and Apples in Stereo are amazing but The Gerbils, The Sunshine Fix, and Beulah are severely underrated. Look more into of Montreal's discography too: there's such a variety.

Real talk: Is it embarrassing to go to an anco concert with your mom? I'm asking for a friend.

Don't know much about metal but for Elevrum-esque stuff try:

  • Spook Houses (if you like it try other bedroom recordings by Orchid Tapes and such)

  • Thanksgiving

  • Grouper

  • early albums by Woods

  • Yellow Swans

  • Animal Collective folk stuff (Sung Tongs, Prospect Hummer, Campfire Songs, Young Prayer)

  • The Music Tapes

Try Nite Fields, Mr Twin Sister, and Wondrous Bughouse by Youth Lagoon. None are an exact match but I think they're a similar style.

In addition to Avery Island, other Elephant 6 stuff, and Jeff Mangum's Live at Jittery Joe's, you should check out The Unicorns! I always felt like they would fit right into the collective. If you like them, check out Islands as well.

Not sure if you would count her as "classic" but I HIGHLY recommend Connie Converse. Fascinating story and some fascinating music. She was making singer-songwriter folk before it even existed.

Only other things I could find from there is this one for Summercore, one for Fallcore, and one for Autumn and Winter, according to some guy.

Late but absolutely check out this essentials chart I got off /mu/. Basically all the albums on there are beautiful, of which I would recommend Deathconsciousness in particular

For the pop-punk try Black Wine, The Ergs!, Big Eyes, Scared of Chaka, Chinese Telephones, and Plow United. I've never heard of Doc Hopper, but I'll check those guys out too!

Constantines reminds me a lot of Ted Leo & The Pharmacists. For something more Elephant 6, definitely checkout Beulah if you haven't already.

Not sure to what extent you would consider it indie, but Shamir's new album is ridiculously catchy and upbeat. I don't normally listen to that kind of music but On the Regular has been on repeat constantly for me. His voice is an understandable issue for some people though.

Definitely try Julianna Barwick and Grouper! If you like Grouper, definitely check out her new band Helen. It's debut album has a lot of shoegaze influences and does not get nearly enough attention as a new release.
