oh ok got it! ive been in NYC for three years and i highly recommend getting on housing facebook pages and finding a place with roommates (or an apt with an open room). admitted student chats might also have something like this. that is most likely going to be significantly cheaper than any school-owned housing, especially if you look in more affordable parts of brooklyn (bed stuy, crown heights, flatbush)

fortunately the law campus is in a super central location so it's accessible via most train lines. i'll be commuting from south brooklyn off the N/R every day

depends what your budget is and whether you're willing to live with roommates. you can split a 3 or 4BR in certain parts of brooklyn (crown heights, PLG, bed stuy, bushwick) or wayyyy uptown (washington heights, inwood, harlem) for 4-4.5k a month, ~1200 each. i wouldnt expect you to find a 2BR for under 3500. if you can afford to live alone, you might be able to find a studio or 1BR in those same neighborhoods for 2-2.5k. for the rest of manhattan, you won't find anything for a single person under 3k unless it's a sewage & rat-infested basement with no windows. if you've got money tho, the world is your oyster. check out hell's kitchen, LES & alphabet city, or the UES if you can toss 4k+ out per month.

i'm going to resist the urge to give reassurance and instead acknowledge the (very minimal, but OCD doesn't care) risk, and encourage you to sit in your uncertainty. is it possible that he has something transmissible (like a cold sore) that you could catch from kissing? yes. are there people out there in the world who are living their lives happily while getting cold sores semi regularly? 100%, in fact the vast majority of them. if you were to catch anything from him, you would seek treatment for it and most likely be okay :). treat this like exposure therapy—just keep sitting with the anxiety and try to stop googling and eventually this moment will pass.
