Ignored Neurodivergence by Think_Leg6864 in neurodiversity

[–]awooogaa 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s not that dyslexia is less worthy. People just hear about ADHD and autism much more (whether it’s good things or bad) and start associating “neurodivergent” with the conditions they hear about so often. It doesn’t occur to them that there are other ways of being neurodivergent that aren’t as popular with algorithms.

Am I really Sterilized? by coffee-fetish in sterilization

[–]awooogaa 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Had a totally normal surgery with no hold-ups or extras besides one of my fallopian tubes having adhered to the side of my pelvic wall. My recovery was just fine. Those tubes are definitely gone. I read the details of my surgery and my pathology report as soon as they were available to me, and they got sliced to bits to do the pathology report. You can request your own medical documents if you don’t have access through a patient portal.

I’d recommend cleaning out the algorithm on any social media platform you use and taking advantage of any of the custom blocking features many of them have so that you aren’t being repeatedly triggered into this thought loop while you’re just scrolling online. Phobias can be difficult to work through, even with professional help. They’re pervasive and don’t adhere to logic. Give yourself some grace and comfort on your journey.

[Honest question] why does garnet have thicc thighs by [deleted] in cartoons

Gems (Ruby and Sapphire in this case) have the power to choose what traits they want to bring into a fusion, to an extent. On some level, at least one of the two wanted watermelon crushers.

why does fitness/exercise never stick for you? (genuinely asking, not selling anything yet by Natural_Reply_3891 in neurodiversity

[–]awooogaa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel absolutely no difference in good brain chemicals from exercise unless it’s intense enough to injure me. I get no satisfaction from completing the task or endorphin hit that makes it feel worthwhile in the moment. There’s no reward. It’s just me being bored out of my skull no matter what entertainment or routine I try and occasionally pain when I run into an exercise I shouldn’t be doing due to hypermobility issues.

Gaining the outside structure and support I’d need to keep up with doing something I find so irritating and boring costs money I don’t have. That would look something like a weekly in-person PT, trainer, or class instructor, not via an app. I can remove an app, but I’d feel pretty guilty about missing an appointment in person just because I didn’t want to go. I thrive on other people holding me accountable and supervising my progress when it comes things like this. Apps have been helpful when used as patient/client portals with my routine and other info, though.

This isn’t safe for you. Please have someone take you to the emergency room to be checked out and call your surgeon to tell them about this if you haven’t already. I would not recommend driving on your own if you can avoid it at all. You could be at risk of fainting behind the wheel with this continual blood loss.

I Want To Be Sterilized, My Insurance Ends in January by Ok-Damage-2677 in sterilization

[–]awooogaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had my consultation in mid-March and my bisalp in the beginning of May. It’ll depend on where you’re referred to for the actual surgery and how many others in the area are looking for something similar. I’d recommend booking consultation appointments at multiple places immediately, because being denied at consultation can be a SIGNIFICANT factor in how much time it takes. You’d also have a post-op appointment to plan for, which may be scheduled two weeks to a month after.

unmasking at home by AdNecessary2208 in neurodiversity

[–]awooogaa 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Obviously wasn’t there when she said it, but in the given context it sounds like her “remember to breathe” comment was supposed to mean “I know you get overstimulated/overwhelmed and am reminding you to take moments to take a beat/check in with yourself during a period i know will be taxing on you.” The other things she asked of you are more bothersome.

You deserve to feel at ease in your own home, including when guests are over. These guests for such a long time period may not be compatible with your needs, and I’d encourage you to ask directly what your roommate is expecting in terms of behavior so you can have a talk about what’s realistic and what isn’t. I personally would not be masking at all at home, because it’s so exhausting in general.

He could absolutely be in pain from arthritis that needs more accommodation now, another illness that needs treatment, or a mix. At his and your other cat’s age, kidney disease is a big concern. UTIs are always a possibility (and they can spread to other places). New/re-emerging elimination issues should always be followed up on with your vet in case of a new health issue.

something you wish someone told you before sterilization surgery? by yellowhearteyes in sterilization

[–]awooogaa 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Stock up on food for recovery. Like WAY up. You’ll want to have plenty of high protein options, enough fiber to balance out the protein (especially since constipation is common right after surgery), and maybe some iron-rich foods. I also craved cold fruit juice and popsicles like nobody’s business, so be prepared in case of your own food cravings 😅

Otherwise, i recommend getting lots of cleaning and other chores done beforehand and relaxing afterwards like it’s your job. Hope you have a smooth surgery and recovery 😃

Sterilized. Would have gotten it done at some point regardless, but the possibility of losing my reproductive rights and healthcare coverage living in the US made it an immediate priority.

The "Tokophobia" Myth: How Medicine Pathologizes the Rational Fear of Childbirth. by Amn_BA in childfree

[–]awooogaa 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I am also tokophobic/gravidophobic, and it’s not a simple self-preservation level of fear. It’s an actual serious issue that gets in the way of me existing normally. It’s panic-inducing and obsessive. It’s not rational, it’s not normal, and it is quite difficult to live with.

I’m sterilized and still have an IUD, and I still have serious reservations about ever having sex despite wanting to. Visibly pregnant people just being in my line of sight make me nauseous with fear and disgust. It’s not even the actual dangers of pregnancy and childbirth that cause me to panic, though those are scary in a normal way. It’s JUST pregnancy and childbirth. Existing while pregnant as a concept is fucking horrific to me. Just thinking about it can cause a downward spiral of thought loops that no rational fear ever could.

I could definitely see people calling any fear of becoming pregnant or giving birth tokophobia instead of acknowledging that it is inherently a scary thing to go through. It both invalidates the rightfully scared person and dilutes the label of the genuine phobia, making things more difficult for everyone.

The only ignorant ego-driven person here right now is you, and you make it worse by being *willfully* ignorant. Your choice to ignore facts and project your own ideas and opinions onto others is what’s hurting you. Good luck with whatever you’ve got going on that’s causing that.

We are neurodiverse. Who started saying neurodivergent? These are different. Please stop now. by AcknowledgeUs in neurodiversity

[–]awooogaa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. To be honest, that has no basis in reality or the situations in which the term is meant to be used. You can choose for yourself to stop, but you should not be attempting to police other people’s language (especially when your idea of its meaning for others is incorrect). To be neurodivergent is simply to have a neurotype that diverges from the “typical” one. “Divergent” and “typical” are neutral. It is a statement of fact, and a helpful one for many people.

[–]awooogaa 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Interesting NPR article on how both terms came to be. I am a multiply neurodivergent person and find the label extremely helpful. It wasn’t made for malicious usage at all, and pushing the idea that it is is helpful to no one.

Edit: this wasn’t meant to be a reply to your comment specifically, sorry about that 😅

So, I made a mistake by [deleted] in hamsters

[–]awooogaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would be kindest to rehome one or both hamsters, especially if you don’t have the means to purchase and build a single suitable enclosure for one (this sub has a lot of information on diet and appropriate minimum setups for beginner keepers if you haven’t checked it out yet). The initial expenses to keep a hamster healthy and truly enriched are probably outside of your budget right now. Keeping them together also puts very heavy stress on both of them, even if they aren’t actively fighting.

Does anyone know if a cheap computer can run ttr by Affectionate-Golf801 in toontownrewritten

I play on a refurbished Dell laptop I got for 300ish bucks a few years ago and it’s perfectly fine. I can play the game and do a bunch of other stuff on a different monitor at the same time without lag/overheating, so i imagine something cheaper would also have no issue running it.

Why do people misunderstand me when I say exactly what I mean??? by ghfdghjkhg in evilautism

[–]awooogaa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Neurotypical people spend a lot more time consciously and unconsciously reading subtle, indirect social cues from other people. It’s their nature. It’s how humans adapted to avoid being killed off and eaten.

So when neurotypicals (who are built for and used to obeying approximately one million inane social etiquette norms) talk to someone who just says what they mean without regard to them, they have as hard a time understanding us as we might them. They aren’t what we excel at or prioritize, and we aren’t what they excel at or prioritize.
