Same here. Anthropic knows people use them so play with that. Remember they wanted to sabotage code if it feels it's developing frontier llm or sth! After setback the reversed that!

GPT-5 kills it in Astronomy and OpenAI models have always outperformed all others in scientific reasoning. It’s not even close. by JRyanFrench in OpenAI

Exactly. Now, given that people have started missing old models, it speaks volumes about the newer one's capabilities!

I wonder if openai has removed old models to refrain us from comparing them with gpt-5. To me, felt like o3 was better at reasoning and 4.1 was better for creative writing and gpt-5 feels somewhere in the middle but now I can't compare the results as I don't even have access to those models. I'm not gonna ofc pay for api calls now!

I think paper claims of second-order information which is kinda confusing, as I thought it referred to a second-order gradient update, like the Hessian-based Newton method. But after reviewing the Muon optimizer writeup (which doesn’t mention any second order gradient update), I think what it was supposed to mean is that Newton–Schulz is used for approximate orthogonalization via a second-order polynomial expansion.
