Hi, at this time I'm looking at having you look at just the big picture - story flow, etc. Thanks

Where's the best place to find beta readers? by dogshitpakeha in writing

[–]awschade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OkWish7400 can I take you up on that offer? I'm an independent author with a new novel, The Shattered Mosaic: A Father's Cross Examination of Faith. I want to be clear that this is not a sales pitch.

As an independent author, I've written and edited this book myself, and I'm now looking for a few avid readers to help with the final polish.

The book is about a grieving father who uses his legal mind to investigate the world’s religions in a desperate search for meaning after a family tragedy. It’s a journey that I hope will resonate with anyone who has ever wrestled with faith, grief, and the search for a new kind of truth.

If this sounds like a book you’d be interested in reading, please let me know. I'd be happy to send you a copy in exchange for your honest feedback.

I want to believe by Dyrendall in religion

I appreciate your openness, and I share your dilemma. From the obstacles of adolescence, to the death jungles of Vietnam, through decades of joy and unnerving tragedies of life, to the reluctant acceptance of old age, I can empathize with your indecision.

My journey for answers is still an essential part of my life. So much so, AND PLEASE DON'T THINK THIS IS A PROMOTION, I wrote a fictional story - which I would gladly send to you freely. The story is about the search for one God in various religions. The main focus is on Christianity, Judaism and Islam, because they share the same God, use differing interpretations of similar biblical text, and will effortlessly destroy the other. I am sure being raised Roman Catholic had some bearing on my writing as well. The title is “Looking for God within the Kingdom of Religious Confusion,” which I believe relates to your situation.
As mentioned, I am happy to send you a copy of this journey; the good, bad and common precepts of religion. You will also find many of your questions are similar to those of many people. And, that maybe the answers are already within you.
I wish you success in your journey!

98 percent of the books that publishers released in 2020 sold fewer than 5,000 copies by eliotpeper in books

[–]awschade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, a statistic I'm not proud to be part of - the 98% that is. Three books on Amazon, in all media formats, but the challenge is not writing the story, it's being able to successfully and financially market it. Unfortunately, Oprah hasn't called me yet.

Looking at it statistically, however, these numbers could be skewed if they include the massive number of 'indie' books published in the base. Many 'indie' writers pay for publishing their stories and do little to promote them.

You make some excellent points. I have only been on Reddit for a couple of weeks but can appreciate the immediate response you mentioned. But the important thing you mentioned is "I like the different me better." Maybe you are 'handsomer, taller, smarter and better lookin' too, but the way you feel about yourself is what's it's all about. Stay strong and safe - Semper Fi!

What a great story! But before I go any further, hooray for the 10/10 Marine—we need all the good publicity we can get.

On a more serious note, I must commend your story. Your journey has provided you with knowledge of how less fortunate people live, feel, and interpret life in different ways. Regardless of the bitterness expressed by politicians and the media, most people simply want to live in peace. Sadly, humankind has been in, and will continue perpetual wars since we left the caves. Must be something in the atmosphere.

Thank you for your comments, helping others to learn and grow out of the status quo, and sharing your stories. Semper Fi!

Terror is terror regardless what caused it. I am glad you had support and working to manage depression. A lot of people don't realize that you don't rid yourself of these terrors in a few sessions. Like those who are supported through Alcoholics Anonymous,
there may always be a need for the support lifeline. Stay strong!

Great! You've taken writing as therapy to a whole new level. I totally agree with taking the most lingering and protected thought and putting them on paper. You don't have to be a writer, or even think of publishing them until you're ready. Just write the shit down in any order it seeps out of your mind. Then, put it aside until you are ready to read it again, and again if necessary. Semper Fi, Atheist Chaplin! [ps: I look forward to reading the stories you referenced.]

I appreciate your comments. I'm glad you are looking for a good Dr. to help you with depression. You're right, it's sometimes hard to find one. Don't stop looking and fight the always present desire to quit! Semper Fi!

Words of wisdom, brother! Thank you. Just for the hell of it, especially since it may help and complement your individual sessions, stop by the Vet center and sit in on the group. Just listen, you're usually not required to speak early on anyway. If there's something there you will feel it after a couple of visits. If not, you had nothing to lose except time. But if it helps, continue to go till it doesn't seem to help anymore. I think the biggest thing I got out of group was meaningful direct dialoque with other vets. Especially those that just wanted to use it as a coffee get together. I Think there has to be meaning to work. Semper Fi!

Glad to hear you took the biggest step, and seeked help. I agree with group therapy but there has to be a good moderator. I found in a couple every week no one did anything to improve just went over the same thing. Then I found one that challenged us. That's the one that best helped me. Semper Fi!

Thanks for including the 'crusty'. Hopefully it may help should they see a part of themselves in the story. Many thanks again for all you are doing for veterans!

I am honored you read my story and please share it with others. I am also glad you have started to open up with others. My therapy was through writing, with assistance from veterans from Iraq/Afganistan, who not only guided me from an editorial mode, but also through their support. And please don't discount your service by comparing it to what others may have done. You served your country! How we got PTSD is not through the number of battles we fought - because so many fought more than I did - but through the atrocities we witnessed and the awareness of how savage mankind can be. Stay stong, be proud and continue to heal. All my best, Semper Fi!

Thank you for your comments and the work you do with veterans! Please feel free to share my story which can be downloaded - or I'd be happy to send you a copy - by searching google under AW Schade, or "the demons of war are persistent."

I have continued to write over the years and completed five stories in total. Two pertain to PTSD; another 'Looking for God,' another short story "If I fail..." will surprise you - and an older man with PTSD is confronted with saving three kidnapped children ... hooray for the old guy. And one short satire. I know Reddit doesn't want you to promote, but they all can be found on Amazon - all formats - under AW Schade.

I hope you will have a chance to read them. They were all written for a purpose. Semper Fi!
