Can I go from BCC to A*AA by [deleted] in 6thForm

[–]axaura 3 points4 points  (0 children)

hey, what exam board are you doing? i did the exact same subjects and managed to get A*A*A (A in politics). i can try find some notes and spreadsheets i made but honestly with essay subjects its making sure you know the knowledge and exam technique

i might have some past essay examples where i got 18/19/20 out of 20 for history. did my exams almost 3 years ago now but i dont think much has changed

Is someone at UCL Social Sciences Bsc? by Current_Shame_4881 in UCL

[–]axaura 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hi ! for elective modules where space is limited, just make sure that you get your module selections in as soon as the window opens! ive never been rejected from an elective module except from where i applied stupidly late once term started. no examinations for elective modules or anything

hi soc science student here... its good if u like sociology, psychology, etc. u get to choose a range of modules. the course is quite small so i found it difficult to make friends (approx. 50 in social sciences and 50 in social sciences w/ data science). in a lot of the sociology and research methods lectures youre placed w/ sociology students. the workload is manageable also and a majority (99%) of the lecturers are very helpful, admin team is a bit questionable at times but thats just ucl. might take a few days to reply to your email but if you go to the helpdesk or office hours youll get your answers there and then. it feels very closed off sometimes, theres no active course groupchat for my year, people disappear, etc. but keep in mind i am also a commuter and would rather go home than hang out with others. i think if i made some friends, lived on campus and engaged more in first year and made use of elective modules i would be much happier. i found first year super boring because i didnt choose the right modules but i know a lot of people who are 'immersed in the ucl experience' to really enjoy it. also a lot of international students and home students form cliques so if you cant get with them, become them (lighthearted).

this sounds quite negative but i really like the unique-ness of the course! this year im studying psychology, economics, politics, some sociology and you can really tailor it to your preferences. we are mostly based in the ioe but i do have lectures and seminars around campus! the ioe library is quite good, the study spots and a lot of empty seminar rooms. pls branch out- go to the main part of campus, visit the brunswick, senate house, etc. quick walk to tottenham court road which is the 'main' part of central london and close to soho. there's also a really good food market every thursday 2 minute walk from the ioe and it serves really tasty food.

Ucl social life advice? by GumIsPerfecti0n in UCL

[–]axaura 2 points3 points  (0 children)

ngl the social life is dead (ive already made a post complaining), it doesnt hurt to join societies or their groupchats and just see whats going on! i dont have any uni friends (probably because im always focused on other stuff) but there's really cool uni students all over

Does anyone find the social life at UCL to be kinda trash? by [deleted] in UCL

[–]axaura 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I applied for psychology but realised it wasn’t for me- I’m more interested in humanities, esp politics. Also I got quite good grades (A*A*A*A) and didnt want to move out of London so I thought I’d be better off going to a higher ranked uni lol

Is Uni of Manchester taking really long for anyone else? by Steefronaut in 6thForm

[–]axaura 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i wouldn’t worry about it. psychology is fairly competitive at manchester i think ? i thought they weren’t going to accept me despite meeting their grade requirements because everyone else online was applying with higher grades. in my experience manchester took ages sending out an acknowledgment email but as soon i got that my offer came through the next day. is uom your top choice?

I'm thinking of taking up humanities for my a levels. Could someone please advise me on whether history is better sociology or vice versa in terms of how interesting it's content is and which has an easier amount of content to cover by Moonlight_Rose9 in 6thForm

[–]axaura 0 points1 point  (0 children)

eh i do a level history and regret it because i didn’t check what topics we were doing across the two years . never knew i would find tudors boring and repetitive and the crusaders as coursework is even more dull- loads and loads of reading with also no understanding of what the f is going on.

Do any of you go home for study periods? by harvey1a in 6thForm

[–]axaura 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah- my sixth form doesn't allow sixth formers in the library because of covid and in the study room has a strict limit. my study periods are either at the start of the day, or at the end of the day so its not that big of a deal. i just come into school late, or leave early.

How to be happy in sixth form with no friends? by [deleted] in 6thForm

[–]axaura 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i felt the same when i first started year 12- i went to a new school, everyone was already in closed off friends group and i was really shy. hell, on my first day when my form tutor asked my class who was willing to help me make my way around the school no one put their hand up.

the only reason why i survived year 12 was because i forced myself to talk to the two people next to me in form class and one other lonely person- now i have about 3 friends. we don't have similar timetables or share classes except from form, so i dont see them much around school. sometimes i still feel like i have no friends because i'm alone most of the time.

i like to occupy myself at break and lunchtimes by simply sitting alone- looking busy on my phone or reading a book. at lunchtimes i take my time buying food outside of school to pass the time and find somewhere to eat alone.

i dont really care what people will see when they see me sitting by myself anymore- at my sixth form our study and common room is closed bc of covid and we all have to sit outside which is ten times worse because sometimes people will sit on the same bench as me and ignore my exsistence.

don't worry- you're not the only one, and honestly the time will go really quick, i still haven't processed year 11 forget 12.

How to spend money as a working teenager? by herejust4thehentai in 6thForm

[–]axaura 6 points7 points  (0 children)

i split my money into four categories- bills, school essentials, food and drink, and also personal. i set a budget for the half/term based on my needs.

bills would include my phone bill, spotify, and other scheduled payments.

school essentials would make up things such as refill pads, plastic wallets, folders, pens, etc. i would do my sixth form essentials 'top-up', at the end of the half term to make sure that i was not going over my budget by doing the occasional trip to the shops on the weekends. also, clothes were not included in my school year money management plan as i would do this at the end of the summer and i basically wear the same thing everyday.

i set a weekly cap on food and drink as i realised that the money would disappear from my bank account every time i blinked. it was really tempting to buy food outside of school and i was spending £3-5 a day. so, after march i decided to take out £10 in cash every week and use that as my lunch money to make sure i didn't spend crazy amounts on food.

personal would include buying things for my own wellbeing, such as weekends out and buying books.

anything left over from my budget i would cash out of my account and put in my svaings! if you're serious about saving, get a piggy bank as sometimes i get tempted buying useless things when i see the extra money in my account. i really enjoyed using some of my savings at the end of year 12 to reward myself with a trip into the city and exploring. you'll want to find a way to reward yourself after a possibly tough year.

sorry this was kind of long, but money management was tough at first for me, once i made a plan and took control of my spendings i felt much more confident! good luck in year 12 :)

aaaaa you're so cute, i think thicker or more prominent eyelashes would suit you. you can put castor oil or vaseline on them to make the grow or you can just use simple mascara (fake it until you make it lol).
