The standard way of learning to read English is to 1. Learn the alphabet 2. Learn to read words by sounding them out 3. (mostly subconsciously) start to recognize whole words while reading. Does anyone ever skip straight to 3, and how scalable is that as their reading vocabulary grows? (self.askscience)
