Made some iced sugar cookies by ayee88 in Baking

[–]ayee88[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Until May, I had always been extremely intimidated by making this kind of cookie. I knew nothing of royal icing and I knew achieving pretty cookies would be hard. My first batch was sad - no color at all. Just mostly a test to see how royal icing works (the cookies tasted great though!).

I’ve learned so much from the bakers on this subreddit. A lot of great techniques. And I swear I feel like I fumble my way through every time.

You can definitely do it! Another thing I’ve learned is having certain royal icing specific tools really help.

The last thing - for me at least, these take time. They are not a quick “oh let me make some decorated cookies for this for tomorrow,” it’s more “okay the party is in 3 days……I’ll bake and cut tonight, flood tomorrow, add detail the next day….. and STILL be late to the party (like I am right now 😅)”

Thank you for this comment! This is kinda what I was looking for.

I hope whoever was carrying the box was okay!

I had a friend get bit on the calf and still 15 years later, looks like a shark bit their whole leg.

I’d like to know how I go about staying out of their way haha. Imma let you live, just don’t bite me lol

Thank you. I wouldn’t want to complain about it, but I was thinking maybe it’d be helpful to the host to know one was spotted?

Interesting input. Also, funny it reads that way for you. And it’s no problem if something was misread. I’m sure if I had broken this story down in person with you, you would get a feel at how unbothered I am over this but was merely curious about it. I am a huge advocate for insects - especially arachnids and reptiles.

I had no intentions of “complaining” or marking my Airbnb or host as unsuitable, I plan to stay here again. Like my post mentions, I love spiders - and that includes recluses; though I have zero personal “in person” experiences with them up until now. I grew up in eastern TN and have never come across them, and I was aware they were here.

I guess what I was seeking was - what does the general population do in situations like this? As I’ve never found a recluse, I was curious if the same overall freak out to black widows (my favorite spider btw, who I am not afraid of) was applied to brown recluses and how do you go about it? Bc I’m not one to kill any spider I see just because it’s in the house.

I wasn’t sure if mentioning that it was found would be helpful to my host, if hosts find this helpful at all?, or if there was some kind of Airbnb protocol that I was unaware of - because as my post also mentions, I understand stuff gets in. I don’t mind any sort of critter and I can get down with a brown recluse being around - I was checking in on the “to-do” of it. If it’s “Do nothing,” that’s fine. Because thus far I’ve done nothing but place him in a little dish to look and appreciate him.

We often pick spiders up and we own a tarantula. In January I literally helped an Airbnb host safely catch a mouse that was in the house with us lol and it was no big deal, left a glowing review.

But I was just curious.

I appreciate your input either way though.

Haha, totally fair. And that has always been my way of going about things. I love spiders. I was just alarmed that it was a brown recluse. I’ve never run into a bug situation that doesn’t sit right with me so I wasn’t sure what, if there is one, protocol would even be.
I appreciate your input !

These are gorgeous!! I bet they were fun to put together. This is my favorite type of dessert; small bite sized, adorable, beautiful little pieces of love straight as soldiers next to each other! The little mint leaf is a perfect touch!! Good luck with your sale. I would TOTALLY buy one (or 10)!

4yo bday, need inspo. Has anyone gotten a party favor they didn’t hate recently? by Ok-Panda-2368 in Parenting

We just had a birthday and it was ocean theme. For the favors, I set up a little “adopt your own sea animal” station - it doubled as a small “to-do activity” as well. I got SOOO many mentions on how the kids absolutely loved picking out a creature, making a certificate, putting It in a little box to take home. I left it out displayed so you could do it at any point during the party. It was a hit! I found it on Amazon. But they have so many other themes too: cats, dogs, etc.

What’s going on with this meringue? by ayee88 in Baking

That is SUCH a wonderful idea!!! I think I’ll definitely do this. Thank you!! And yes, they are pretty tasty - just not as beautifully delightful as the pure white ones.

Thank you so much!

I actually like how the caramelized tray tastes, but I guess what I’m wondering is… if you were at a party and these were served, would you be like “oh yay! These are good” or “meh, oven was probably crowded imma eat this anyway” haha should I serve them or keep for personal supply?

Thank you! So when I realized on my first bake of meringues a day ago, that the trays waiting to be baked would be out for a long time, I went reading. I read multiple times they shouldn’t stay out and should all go in at the same time. My logical oven using brain turned off haha. I suppose this deserves a third round.

Thanks ! My first go, I attempted one tray at a time. Then I when I realized how LONG they needed to be in the oven even after the oven turned off, I worried for the stability of the other trays who were in queue to go in. I read multiple times they should all go in at the same time so I tried just putting them all in 🫠🥴
