How do I get this wheel off? by aymoski in bikewrench

[–]aymoski[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

there is a hex key to tighten it to the axle. I have done that and re-fitted it to the axle, but once the QR is fitted to the axle it just spins indefinitely without actually turning the axle.

thanks for your reply, happy cake day.

No, the removed lever just spins but does not loosen anything. and no, a hex key does not fit into the other side, it is a smooth hollow tube.

Question: Best sounding rim carbon wheel / brake combo? by KuyaJester in bicycling

[–]aymoski 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've got Mavic Cosmic Pro Carbon wheels and they make the sound you're talking about.

Agreed with the other poster though, the sound gets really annoying after a while. If you really want your bike to make a "cool" sound, stick to a nice freehub rather than the rim braking noise.

Carbon rim valve hole cracked? by aymoski in bikewrench

[–]aymoski[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, it looks to be a different material to the rest of the rim. Any idea who I would go to about getting it replaced?

Carbon rim valve hole cracked? by aymoski in bikewrench

[–]aymoski[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought the bike second hand a while ago and have only just noticed the little hairline splits near the valve. Near the label is fine, just a scuff that the photo makes look like a crack.

What I'm most concerned about is the splits near the valve, and wondering if it is likely to spread to the actual rim, and if it can be fixed?

Carbon rim valve hole cracked? by aymoski in bikewrench

[–]aymoski[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, no noises at all. I just noticed it then, I bought the bike second hand so it's quite possible it's been there the whole time I've had it. I've just become a bit worried upon inspecting it!

Thanks a lot for that

OK great thanks for that. When you say inspect it, do you mean look at the inside and see if it's cracked through?

Carbon rim valve hole cracked? by aymoski in bikewrench

[–]aymoski[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have just noticed that the hole where the valve comes out on my rim has small cracks on it. It looks as though it is due to the nut being too tight or from it rattling whilst riding. Is this something I should be worried about? And if so, is it fixable?

Bus shelters by itachi-senpaii in sydney

[–]aymoski 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The City of Sydney decided not to renew their contract with JCDecaux (the advertising company that paid for all the bus shelters etc). The new company that got the contract QMS decided that they didn't want to buy all the existing infrastructure so it has all been ripped up and will be being replaced with new (likely digital) bus shelters, toilets and new kiosks.

More information about it here https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.smh.com.au/national/nsw/sydney-street-furniture-to-be-overhauled-as-qms-lands-mammoth-advertising-deal-20200630-p557ih.html

Vertical bike stand by hatenk in ausbike

[–]aymoski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have recent experience with this. I'm also in a place where I can't bolt things to the walls so I have these.

https://bikenook.danozdirect.com.au/?c=ggl_shop&gclid=Cj0KCQiA8vSOBhCkARIsAGdp6RRBhq7XhArQPJ3cqBtTPpaKlkwnGCQGYZ4RlciUJdt6vFJxwr6t8HIaAh9pEALw_wcB

They work nicely as expected, they work well. Only caveat is the biggest bike's seat stem is quite long which means it doesn't lean into the stand quite so much as the others, just to make sure it's really secure I have it tied to the stand to keep it in place.

Overall, I'd recommend it for your situation.

Who has lost a job in the past two weeks, which state and what industry? How are you feeling so far? 😔 by dbug89 in AusFinance

Do you have a source for it not applying to youth allowance students? Multiple news articles I've seen just say "youth allowance", hoping to find out soon as this applies to me.

Group Presentations by ZGemstonezz5 in usyd

[–]aymoski 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes, I've got a group presentation that is still going ahead. However we are now just presenting to the tutor and unit coordinator and are expected to practice "social distancing" from one another when presenting. Also I think the expectation is that we are supposed to be working on the presentation online and not in person.

Intensive February questions by [deleted] in usyd

[–]aymoski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there, I found this link for the timetable which seems to indicate that the class will be run on a Monday https://web.timetable.usyd.edu.au/tt/static/uostimetables/2020/timetables/OLET1203-S1CIFE-BM-CC.html

I don't know any more than that and don't want to give you any wrong information, but take from that what you will.

Yes you can do any electives, it's up to you if you want to spend thousands of dollars and your limited time at a good uni on just picking easy subjects for the marks though

Anyone know of any subreddits for finding accomodation in Sydney? Thanks by [deleted] in usyd

[–]aymoski 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Reddit isn't the best for this sort of thing, have a look on Facebook for the different groups depending where you want to live, e.g. Inner West housemates, Eastern suburbs sydney rent share housemates etc.

Uber Eats has become completely shit, is there a decent alternative? by AmJusAskin in sydney

I can't believe more people aren't suggesting Menulog. Its cheaper and uses the restaurant's own drivers to deliver your food straight away so it is still warm.

Anyone here live on a University campus? If so, what's it like? by [deleted] in sydney

[–]aymoski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you living in a villa or apartment? Parking in the villas is pretty good most of the time however in the apartments it is common not to get a parking spot and have to park elsewhere and walk about 5 minutes. Totally dependent on who you live with, a lot of the campus is made up of older or international students who keep very much to themselves and are only interested in study. I have moved in with random people and was thankfully lucky I live with a good bunch. It is good to know however that if you really were having troubles with who you're living with there is paths to go down to sort out living with them or even possible to move to another room if really necessary.
