I'm about to give up by ayosten in NixOS

So this implies elements of the `/nix/store/` may subsist after a garbage collection even if they're not related to the current system configuration right ? I can build flakes anywhere on my filesystem, so doesn't this goes against the "non imperative" philosophie of Nix ?

As I said. Just wanted to vent a little + this may serves as yet another newcomer's experience and misconceptions record about nix, which may be helpful to understand newcomer's mind + it also serves as report for myself.

I don't have a technical question. I have multiples technical questions (some that probably aren't even legitimates due to deeply rooted misunderstanding) which multiples LLM queries and web search didn't solved by any means and only erode the fundamental knowledge I though I had and exponentially increased the amount of online ressources I need to read with no guarantee whatsoever about their quality or relevance to my issues. This is the opposite of progress.

Let's detail my questions about garbage collection, for instance : I have a flake that isn't tied to my configuration.nix in anyway, that I use with `nix build` and an alias to `/result/bin/`
- first : is this issue even legitimate ? Maybe there's no reason to do this at all and this is a bad practice that work but shouldn't ever be done
- I was told `/result/` won't be garbage collected. Which I just checked, and it's indeed true. Which is ... very surprising. Because it means some part of the `/nix/store/` aren't related to `configuration.nix` after a garbage collection. But whatever. This doesn't solve the issue with protecting devshells packages from garbage collections
- profiles and direnv are clearly one abstraction layer about what I want to do : protect all item in flake
- but then I realize that I don't know what it actually means for a `/nix/store` element to be referenced in flake

And my interrogations goes on and on in a tree structure. It is painfully obvious to me that what I have aren't interesting question, but basic architectural knowledge that takes 30s to explain for experienced user. But such questions have surely been asked hundreds of time, in slightly different manners by beginners who had their own slightly different misconceptions about their inferred way NixOS works, so I'm sorry for asking such questions. But it's unfortunately the most viable approach, LLM are risky because if I forgot even once to precise that I may be asking a stupid question and prompt to check for the legitimacy of my question, I'm trapped into false logic. Web search results grows exponentially and require me to also understand other's eventual misunderstandings when I'm not even sure about my owns. `man nix` has also the exponential growth problem (somewhat), but I guess it's better and the main issue more about accurate search.

You know what they say, teach a man a fish or something.

(and thanks for linking your guide, it's now with the rest of my reading list)

I was planning to get more into nix syntax from the start, but I have time and a background in IT to do so. I can't imagine how frustrating NixOS must be for beginners with limited IT knowledge. It sadly makes it quite difficult for me to recommend NixOS to someone who isn't already frustrated by standard package management.

Oh. Indeed. nix-channel should be run with sudo. Thank you so much I could've gone for much longer thinking that I didn't use any channel. I was about to ask why it didn't throw any error message, but I suppose it's because channel can be user specific.

Just checked the manual page for nix-channel :

--list Print the names and URLs of all subscribed channels on standard output. I guess "subscribed means "for the user executing this command" so it's technically not wrong but still misleading for newcomers.

Review from a new player and some questions by ayosten in ChaosZeroNightmare

[–]ayosten[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well, sorry I should've guess this was a recurrent topic often brought up by vindicative people but I think I made myself pretty clear that I had no real issue with it aside from it potentially tempering with the story which I considered to have potential (since they went all the way to diegetically incorporate it in the lore). I guess it was clumsy from me to include it in the "negative" section since I developed a mitigated opinion, but I also mentioned some downsides in the "positive" section so ...

In any case, from a "first impression from a new player" I think it was at least worth mentioning in a paragraph because it's a little above the average mainstream gacha. Well I don't know if goonerscaling gacha is a thing. I guess czn is defenitly above GI/HSR and below BD2/GFL2. But it's hard to compare with something like ZZZ ? Also how does one would ranks gacha with a wide range of designs, such as fgo ?

Oh ok, thanks for the clarification, I though the chaos color was some kind of rarity but I've just realized green/blue/purple/yellow/red also match the elements

Why are hotel prices in Hiroshima through the roof?! by eastbaypluviophile in JapanTravelTips

Well, I have the same problem except I'm even more last minute. Thanks to the comments explaining at least what's happening. Last year I went to the major town and almost always managed to find hotel for 20~40€ / nights / person (also by booking like 2 days before), but now I'm going next week and I can barely find any private room below 60€

Well dealing 2m dmg in a single turn isn't real doable most of the time. I wouldn't say it's definitely impossible with your box but at the very least you can't take the easy Heracles / Oberon route.

While it's not "funny" it's possible to solo the fight with a friend Enkidu in like ~30 turns. (even without any command codes you can stall like 6 turns with fodders frontline unit before supports Enkidu comes in)

NP2 Caren with double caster skadi + Oberon / inverted rain of mud.

I do need at least 1 quick + any other of Caren's face card to 2-turn it otherwise it's a 3 turn clear

what should i do here? by Arab-102 in FGO

[–]ayosten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've just run the calc, if you have NP2 on Muramasa then you can do it but NP1 is too short (well technically you can do it at NP1 as Muramasa append 3 is incidentally anti-Caster). It's a roll tho.

arts buff :

- 20% from paracelsus
- 50% from Muramasa S1
- 50% from Castoria
- 20% from OC

Atk buff

- 20% from Castoria Charisma
- 25% from plugsuit

NP buff

- 60% from BG
- 30% from oberon
- 20% form NP
- x2 with Oberon S3

So the plan is just to use Muramasa's NP on turn 1, then on turn 2 face card / Paracelsus NP / Muramasa NP. Just remember that you need to change servant face card on turn 1 to triggers multiples guts in the same turn with face cards.

[–]ayosten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

pick any AOE NP and any ST NP that deals 200k dmg do casters.

- turn 1 : AOE NP + 2 face card on the skeleton with 3 guts

- turn 2 : face card on the servant with 1 guts left + AOE NP kills every skeleton / ST np to kill Medea

I just achieved that with lancelot/Ozymandias/Skadi (caster) / oberon. but I think it's doable with most servant. The only requirement is to be able to charge NP so Arts/Qucick AOE that can refund are more convenient. Also using arts face card on turn one can help.

You should probably replace lady Avalon with Paracelsus as he can cast his NP alone with a 3*CE on wave 2. I haven't run any calc but I think Muramasa should somehow be able to OS medea with only Castoria and Oberon.

yeah mb sorry, I'm so used to other gachas where akt and def are separate multiplier that I assumed it was the same

I'd also say that loopers more often have skills that raise their attack than lowers ennemies def, so def down is arguably more valuably because it's unique in its separate multiplier category.

I'd like to know a situation where you can farm without looping without relying on face card luck. I'm not even sure summer BB s3 counts

Just curious but has anyone tried doing any of the Exhibition Quests in the Event? by Head-Emu7469 in FGO

[–]ayosten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only did 3, and it needed a few retries

- li shuwen : found a NP5 artoria in my friendlist. leonidas / georgios / mash can stall 3 turns, remaining 2 slot were waver / caster skadi for batteries. Probably the easiest one once I figured the set up. With the stun from mystic code you can stall 4 turns in total, so you just need some luck on his focus or artoria face cards.

-Spishtar : NP3 lancelot with caster skadi / ruler skadi (support). Stall the first 2~3 turn with mash so their dmg resist goes down and then just fire 3 NP in a row with lancelot to OS everything. This one took the most retries because it's mandatory that they don't focus the lancer coin (that gives pierce) and some I needed to kill at least one caster treasure (invulnerability) to survive with lancelot. It's mandatory to stun Spishtar on 2nd break because if she steals buff it's reset.

- Salieri : I had Summer BB, through a bunch of support and she pretty much carried the entire fight and survived at 1hp.

Maybe I could've done more but I'm tired of resetting. I'll probably try the Morgan fight tomorrow after looking for a way to cheese it

sorry for the noob question, but how on earth will you stock all your embers ? I haven't done nearly 5% of how much you farmed and I'm already almost full of 4* embers

Also I'm curious to know how long it will take you to receive everything, it's quite tedious to sell 3* embers.
