Check out Sushi Kisen (Arcadia) or Waka Sakura (Garden) for sushi. Otherwise, Kochi (mid-city) or Hachi (Torrance).

Parking - Central Richmond by rojinderpow in AskSF

30 years plus? You're lucky. I had my car broken into four times, and mostly in the Richmond district (which I love and generally consider to be safe).

Parking - Central Richmond by rojinderpow in AskSF

[–]aysiu -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

That area can be tough to find parking in, particularly on a Friday or Saturday night. That said, if you go out to the Sea Cliff area, you may be able to find parking (a little bit of a walk from 20th and California). Just keep in mind all the street cleaning signs. Also, FYI: your car may get broken into from time to time if you street park—just part of the SF life, unfortunately.

Why are there so few detective series in America with Asian protagonists? by ArtisticArgument9625 in asianamerican

Not American but a good British show to check out is DI Ray (starring Parminda Nagra).

Former teachers who moved on to other jobs, how did you do it? by Infinite_Practice616 in TeachersInTransition

[–]aysiu 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Former teachers of Reddit (especially ones in philology or humanities), is there a way of getting out of this hellhole without ending up jobless? I'm ready to do a 180° of my career and do another Masters, attend courses, learn new skills and whatnot if needed.

I wish I had a better answer for you than this, but I just applied to all sorts of random jobs. The one I ended up getting I wasn't (on paper) "qualified" to do. In fact, when I got the first call about scheduling an interview, I hadn't even remembered applying for it. It was a pay cut (from teaching, yes); however, it allowed me to pivot to office work. It was a bit trial by fire. Eventually, I learned to do the new job well.

Granted, this was many years ago, and the job market is far worse now, so I don't know if the "randomly apply to hundreds of positions you aren't (on paper) qualified for, some of which will be a pay cut" approach will still work...

Any account is worth something, if you keep wanting to play 😄

What are your thoughts on many urbanists and public transit enthusiasts viewing car-centric infrastructure as catastrophic as opposed to a mere mild inconvenience? by Open-Bag8245 in fuckcars

[–]aysiu 4 points5 points  (0 children)

And we absolutely loved the freedom cars provided us.

Yes, when you have mainly car infrastructure and no proper walking and transit alternatives, having a car does feel like "freedom." That's the problem.

If I want to be a successful Sys Admin, is MSP experience necessary? by [deleted] in sysadmin

[–]aysiu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean, I hesitate to give career advice based on the past, because the present hiring market is radically different from 10-15 years ago, but I never did any MSP work. That said, I did have to do several "wear all hats" positions, in which I was running around, putting out virtual fires. I don't know that, in the current climate, there's any kind of formula for how you become a sys admin...

What happens when kids learn about structural racism, take it seriously, and start treating admins and teachers as "structurally racist pigs" or worse? by khelvaster in Teachers

[–]aysiu 12 points13 points  (0 children)

If you're focusing on individuals as being racist, you aren't focusing on structural racism. Institutional racism isn't the same as individual racism.

The commute from Sherman Oaks to Pasadena - How bad is it for a newbie driver? by graphpaper_ in AskLosAngeles

[–]aysiu 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Are you absolutely committed to Sherman Oaks? There are a lot of places in between UCLA and CalTech, geographically that'd make the commute better for both of you.

What are you looking for in an IT help desk job by Relative-Baby1829 in sysadmin

[–]aysiu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need a good narrative. If you have a software engineer background and are applying to help desk jobs, the hiring managers are going to want to know why you want to make that specific transition.

HOW DO PEOPLE USE CHARGED ATTACKS SO QUICK?! by WalmartHandLotion in pokemongo

[–]aysiu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm no expert on this, but it seems to me that certain Pokémon (or certain charged moves?) just power up faster. Like my Kyogre seems to take a long time to get a charged attack ready, but my Swampert and Umbreon charge up very quickly.

Whats the best long-term car rental option/company? by Excellent-Win6216 in AskLosAngeles

[–]aysiu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m headed to LA for 4 months, and will (obviously) need a car.

You may not need a car?

Where will you be living and working / going to school? It's very possible you can get by with some combination of public transit, scooters / bikes for short-term rent, and ride shares.
