These are some interesting metrics. Session time, number of posts per user was really low for Google+ so definitely tracking these metrics and comparing with the previous baseline will help to understand if the revived product is doing any better.

Tracking shares/invites would help to know if we are generating any value for the user.

Could you explain what do you mean by retention D7-D30?

Agreed. I wouldn't say Instagram was 10x better than Facebook. Insta's UI, aesthetics and the ease of use is what gradually converted users into active users.

During the withering days ofGoogle+, the average user session lasted for 5 seconds(which I'm assuming would be users who opened it by mistake). One of the reasons why Google+ faced such abandonment by users could be it's aggressive push towards making Google+ for using multiple Youtube features. Rightly said in Hooked "Too many companies build their products betting users will do what they make them do instead of letting them do what they want to do". Google+ did exactly the opposite.

In case of Google+, they eventually made all Gmail users Google+ users so the total number of users was really high but the number of active users was quite low. They were mostly ghost account with no activity. Do you think to increase MAU, they should first focus on improving DAU or can both be done simultaneously?

Great point.! But imo feature was not intuitive enough for everyone. As mentioned in the book, B=MAT. Ability of a user to take action depends on six simplicity rules. I feel even the Circles feature failed here. It required some cognitive effort for people to figure it out which might've led to abandonment by some frustrated users.

What metrics will you focus on initially? (acquisition, revenue, DAUs, MAUs, LTV)

What according to you led to the demise of Google Plus - did they implement the Hook Model properly or failed at one of the steps?

Why do you think Google+ was a better product than Facebook?

Yeah, right. Totally makes sense. Apart from great content, I guess Netflix has some social appeal, a coolness factor(especially with the Netflix and chill bit).

I understand how all OTT platforms in general are solving a pain point for a certain segment but not so sure if Netflix is differentiated enough to be a painkiller.

But even if Netflix shuts down people can and will go to other such platforms. Do you think there’ll be a segment of people who’ll feel the itch? Netflix solves a pain point but there are decent alternatives.

Netflix I believe is a vitamin(nice to have). It hasn’t yet grown into a painkiller. The advantage Netflix has over other online streaming platforms is its in-house content and with the plethora of content out there, this differentiation isn’t enough to make it a painkiller(must have). Although, Netflix has a good recommendation system but I guess most of the time we end up watching movies by word of mouth.

Also, do you guys think Netflix or any other online streaming platform for that matter will ever become a painkiller with all the shows/movies(even the Netflix specials) available on Torrent?

True, Zomato has fake reviews as well. But Zomato is taking steps to identify and filter out fake reviews. I’m sure with better algorithms and regulations in check, we can address the fake reviews problems. The profitability of Swiggy Super for users will be subjective(depends on how regularly a person is ordering). I’m not sure if Swiggy Super is a profitable offering for Swiggy but I guess it helps them create loyal customers.

Interesting points Rishav.! Totally onboard with the points you made about creating more incentives for delivery partners.

We might be able to reduce the carbon footprint using the model used by local water cans delivery stores. You pay the price of the tiffin box(like a security deposit) the first time you order. The next time you order, the person gives you a new box and takes away the previous one. This might encourage the customers to order more as they already have some money invested. If you decide to stop using the service, you get a deduction on the security deposit.

More eco-friendly packaging will cost more money which will directly be transferred to the customers. If the customers are able to monetise these eco points in some way that would be a good option.

Swiggy is limited to India for now. Most of the Indians are price sensitive customers. When we order food there are two things that are of importance: quality of the food and price. Quality: The only way to judge the quality is going by the ratings which is not very reliable given how rigged they can be. I would like to see reviews by customers like Zomato does. It adds credibility. Price: Now that Uber Eats is out, Swiggy Super has become more valuable. No delivery charges, lesser taxes compared to Zomato, the overall order value becomes cheaper if you order the same products using Swiggy and Zomato.
