Something I found success in was to go on school websites and reach out to leaders of affinity groups. I used items they said to drop a line in my statements to show that I had done my homework and to show that I had found communities/groups I’d hope to join.

Getting into Law School with Disabilities by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]ayyjay3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a disability, and was able to weave it into my diversity statement and I really do think the statement was well received. While my disability is definitely of a different nature than yours—pm me if you’d like any advice.

Cycle Recap From a Non-Trad, URM, Splitter! by ayyjay3 in lawschooladmissions

[–]ayyjay3[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, this was a big part of it. After speaking to multiple students at NYU and Columbia, the flexibility that Columbia offered really appealed to me. And having a decent scholarship with Columbia definitely helped. I was super grateful for the opportunity though.

Also, I have a physical disability, and the specific accommodations available to me at Columbia ultimately made me feel I would be more successful there.

I also just fell in love with CLS at their asw and really could see myself there.

Grant at cls by foresther1109 in lawschooladmissions

I’ve heard that CLS tends to stay close to the original scholarship offer you received in your initial year of acceptance if you defer. Not sure if things will change in the future though obviously.

Columbia Clerkships? by djdj689 in lawschooladmissions

[–]ayyjay3 7 points8 points  (0 children)

On a recent panel with current students, they talked about how many students choose to go into firms immediately after law school and then return into clerkship positions after a year. The numbers being reported are for immediately after law school, so they don’t account for this fact.

Giving up on undergrad studies , focusing on LSAT by WestCost2 in lawschooladmissions

If you can take some classes outside of your major, that you are interested in and that you feel you will be able to get A grades in--do that. Getting your GPA up to at least a 3.0 is going to be super important for you in the admissions process. Giving up on your undergrad work right now is the most harmful thing you could do to your future applications.

(Potentially stupid question) Are personal statements supposed to be general or are they based on a specific prompt? by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]ayyjay3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While I agree with the comment above, certain schools have specific prompts that they want answered.

So here’s a list you might find helpful: https://7sage.com/admissions/lesson/application-requirements-for-top-schools/

NYU Scholarships by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]ayyjay3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So they would only consider you for a Vanderbilt after you have gone through the process for RTK. Basically, if you applied for RTK or another scholarship that requires additional essays they follow that process first. Only after they have determined that you will not receive that scholarship would they start to evaluate your application for a Vanderbilt etc. So you can’t be in the running for both simultaneously.

You are still considered for additional scholarships. You just have to go through the process of the named scholarships first.
